Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Four man teams doesn't sound all that appealing to me to be honest.

I don't think I'll be doing a tourney this weekend. I feel like people need a break and I know I need a break after the last 3 or 4 weeks of nonstop playing. Plus Midwest is coming up for a lot of guys. I kind of want to throw some steaks on the grill right now and I have a feeling Saturday is the day to do it.

T-dog...you have PM.

Jenni, glad to 'spain' the situation. Yeah, the local ball was kinda dropped the first time. The League Operators balls were dropped the second time. I'm looking forward to the next time...I still think it will get there...sooner than later I hope. Still need some good people to help:).

From a pool player stand point I think I can speak for everyone when I say we would do anything to help with getting the ISPA state tourney to Des Moines!

Once again, I appreciate the fact that Ken gets on this thread to discuss the issues with the players!

Ken --

What would a committee from DM need to cover - bases wise - to make it roll? My guesses -- Admin (ISPA Office), Tables Set-up/Tear down, Sponsorships(Fundraising?), ??.

What things currently get 'taken care of' at the QC that a DM Committee would need to handle?

FWIW

I am selfish and I would feel like the man if I got to play in Hy-Vee hall for any reason. That place just feels big time doesn't it? The River Center was nice but the other activities arent there and once again too many pool players blowing their money in the casino. I prob heard at least 3 stories or guys losing the money they cashed out in the casino!

All this talk has been entertaining yet almost painfull at times. One thing is clear though, confidence is not lacking from most of the people. So all the talk regarding elites, masters, etc. got me thinking what alot of us in town like talking and thinking about. Who is the best player in Des moines? Jody? Athens? Chance? I would bet if you asked those three, you would get three different answers. In fact I know you would. Since talk is cheap, and people are being called out, why not see who is the best. I say to stop all the bravado, behind the back talking, and have a 500.00 to 1000.00 buy in, round robin, winner take all tourney to claim the title Des Moines Best. It could become a huge annual event a few weeks after the State tourney. Jody, Athens, and Chance are the first three to come to my mind. But anyone could enter. (John brown, pet, phil, McCoy, etc.) Anybody from Des Moines. Jamie is no longer considered a des moines boy in my book. Does Mike b live in ames? The head to head competition could have one pocket, 10-ball, and 8-ball, utilizing the 9's and bar boxes. A format so there are no whiners and excuses. So why don't you big ass studs, get down and play each other and see who the top dog is, instead of just talking and acting like your the top dog. I'm sure Des Moines very own Mikey Frost would be happy to facilitate. Then again, he might play!

Niceeee Po$$$t! I unfortunately could not play in something like this just yet but in a few years I'll give them all hell(might not be able to get there but it will be tough!!!). Jamie always gets to count as a Des Moines boy. I think the tensions are too high but I could think of so many matches between 5 or 6 people that would be a sweat bettors delight I could just die.

Think of the possible juggernaut 8 ball scotch doubles matches there could be on the bar table. The heads up bar table sets. The big table sets. One pocket probably not a go, however I have seen Jody shooting some rather good straight pool and my guess is Athens probably plays pretty good straight pool too, Jason Chance is prob the favorite though in Straight Pool. If we all got along better though between Athens/Jody/Pet/Chance/Fenton/Jon Brown/ some wild matches could happen, you could insert many other names too and it would be a grand old time.

Oh Gary you have a way with words my friend!

Mikey, I wish this would happen! I don't know if you could get everyone on that list to play because of one thing or another. Some guys hold grudges for some reason. It would be exciting to watch and definitely exciting to play!! I would love to play a couple of those matches :)

YES~ finally something positive to discuss, oh just imagine! What's the next step Ken?

Speaking for Mr. Chance since he doesn't post here, or even bother to read this crap. He would love to do this.

Which means noone else will.

I should point out i would love to see a round robin multi event deal. No matter my feelings in the situation.

Its just like the gambling that went on last summer, its good for pool.

PLUS its really fun to watch.

So if this was to happen, why couldn't we get a trophy that could be engraved once a year with the champion's name, and have it displayed at Big Dog's? Call it "The Top Dog Tournament", or "The Battle of Des Moines" or something. Wish this would happen!!!!

No 2nd place plaques or trophies, because those would probably get thrown away or something :)

Plus they would get the AZ King title as well.

Last summer will go down as one of my great pool memories I'm sure, we lost money, but I'll be damned if that wasn't the place to be for those couple of weeks. Really were some good times when you stop and think about it.

I don't like for it to be in tourney format necessarily, I like for it to be gambling. I think the rail would end up betting too and I think $100/set stuff is plenty high for these kind of matches. Not trying to bust people but it would be the nuts for pool, plus you never quite know who would drive over and play some too. We need a "pit" like when SVB played Scott for these matches with seating and I need a special place to shark all humans. I like watching the best people clash and settle it with the cues and the best part is just cause you win doesn't mean you WIN! Does that make sense, I hope not.
