A fellow Az'er had his SD card camcorder with him and I decided to film myself playing the ghost one game... My break is freaking atrocious, but I've spent the last 4 hours today practicing and its a little better. I'm sticking with the soft break for now since its been working, but I need to work on a good hard break.

This was the first game... (broke bad the first rack and couldn't edit the video so I left that in).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Radngt3tt_w The video looks weird, but thats a 9ft gandy.

Weird seeing yourself play....... What could I work on (other than my break lol)? (this was filmed a few weeks ago... I hadn't practiced very much in the last couple months beforehand, but I guess I'm managing well.... That four should not have gone and normally I'd re-rack if I dont hit the center of the pocket each ball, but I just wanted to see how I look)

First of all, I hope to God that isn't true, because if it is ... well, that's just silly.

Second of all, if the cue ball is continually getting air on your break shot, it's usually because it's bouncing by the time it strikes the head ball. Try to keep a level cue when you're breaking, no dipping. Which brings me to the biggest tip I can offer you. Don't dip your elbow on your stroke. Watch yourself and you'll notice it's quite prominent. Focus on keeping your shoulder and elbow on plane, and the only movement should be the pendulum-like motion from your elbow down. Work on that, and I think your break problems will soon go away. Hope this helps.

Very shootn

Very nice shooting I like how easy it was for you to switch hands. I know you probably like shooting fast but I noticed you don't have a preshot routine so that's something I would work on.

I think I understand the physics of the cue ball and whatnot on the break and for a short while when I was playing 8 hours a day I used the bounce to stop the cue ball dead center of the table... It really does come and go, and well it definitley went lol. I practiced a hard break for a couple hours today and found a decent spot that allowed for a real level stroke, and you're right, the dipping of the arm is the fundamental error... Holy hell the break is tough lol.

The first year I started playing I was playing left-handed for a good 6 months even playing in tournaments just trying to figure out my true dominence.... Ambidextrity (spelling?) runs in the family but up to now my muscle memory is in the right arm, but I can manage a few good left-hand shots when I can't reach with my right... Also with how poor my vision is I'll sometimes switch hands on cut shots because of my left-eye dominence. I've had people ask me if I'm right or left handed haha, but it's pretty clear on the break.

I've heard of this pre-shot routine... What exactly is it? IMO I've got one, but WTF do I really know... I've only been playing a couple years and I'm interested in improving my game.

Oh, and yes... If I'm barely making balls on a gandys 500ft wide pocket I consider it a miss :p... A friend of mine who's been on tour told me one day when I was bobbling balls like it was my job said "just play for the center of the god damn pocket" my tournament game went from 2 and out to 2nd in my local tournaments pretty consistently. If it hits a rail it's a miss in my book!

Your there now what?

I think you should take a few lessons before you need the video Camera! You should break from the center till you can level out the cue, this will keep the cue ball on the table. work on 1 thing at a time- practice the break for hrs.You can keep track on paper 50 racks- scratches, and 1 or more ball on the break. The break is a huge part of the game. do you have a break cue?- yes, the bar cues on the wall,if you don't have another. I would suggest a break cue with a Samsara break tip as well. I would suggest a Kamui Tip on your playing cue as well. Do you think about the shooting stance and the break stance being different!! They are. You should have a set of drills to practice !!! You are doing what is considered banging the balls around. which helps nothing. If your serious about Pool it takes like 7 yrs minimum to be a hustler. mark

that angle doesnt do anyone any favors... Its really terrible. From that angle the table looks small, the cue looks short & stubby too... Hard to tell whats going on in the vid... I posted a vid I took with my phone the other day to youtube, I prefer the angle I used and it was really perty easy. Take a look...

When I saw your tip fly up and down before breaking, I knew the CB was flying up. When it flew off the table, I thought - "I knew it."

Keep your cue as level as possible
