Snooker (Billiards table set up)

Hey guys,

I'm really looking to get into snooker, but since I'm an American, snooker tables are really hard to find. I would like to know what the best breakdown would be for a 7 foot table. Where should the baulk line and semicircle be drawn, how many reds should be used (maybe 15 would be too many for a small table?), etc. I want to know what the best way would be to adapt the game to a smaller table like this.

I wouldn't bother trying, snooker is not snooker unless it's played on a 12 footer. You can play the game of sorts for 50 years on a smaller table and become so good you can make 147's on a daily basis but it's just not the same game.

Trying to think of a comparison... tennis v table tennis. or crazy golf v real golf come to mind.

I'm assuming second rate snooker is better than no snooker at all..I want to play a game like snooker and don't have a table for it. They do make smaller snooker tables so I know it's possible...I'm just trying to get an idea of how to set it up.

Check out the rules and markings on this site:

You might as well place the balls in convenient locations. When I've played on a 9' table with a set of snooker balls I've just used the diamonds.

1. Place the (equivalent of) your green, brown, and yellow on the head string two diamonds up from the head rail. The D will be a semicircle one diamond in radius.

2. Black goes 1/2 diamond up from the short rail.

3. If you've only got 15 pool balls to start, you could have the 6 "colors" and a short triangle of 6 "reds".

That would be S'not, as in Snooker It's Not. Could be fun.

If you know of a snooker table in your area that I don't have listed on FindSnooker.com, please let me know.
