What's your take on people that won't gamble?

Gambling

I think its best to leave other folks alone to enjoy the game the way they see fit. Im just glad they are around paying for their pool time minding their own business. Too many issues surround the money. If you want to keep your friends you dont rob them of their money. If you want to gamble I think its best to just pick on the gamblers. Its hard to go wrong if its friendly even if its for a few dollars.

99 out of 100? i'd bet he'd do it 100 our of 100 and i'd give you odds on the money.

playing better players makes you better, even with a spot.

I don't know, man. He was here a few months back doing challenge matches and he was way off that night. Probably worn out really. I didn't have the 200 bucks it cost to do a challenge match but from watching him that night I think I could have taken him......or at least had a helluva chance to take a stab at it. He was really out of stroke. It was actually kind of depressing seeing Efren Reyes out of stroke.....but at the same time it made him more human. hehe!!

I'm not a big gambler, and I'm certainly not a thief...but...
I really enjoy beating the daylight out of the guy who always wants to gamble...

You know, the mouth...lets gamble, lets gamble, lets gamble...

and then he finally says ok, he'll play for nothing...and then I break it off in him.

Then he wants to whine and cry that - well if it was for money...blah blah blah.

if you're that sure you're right bet something and find out.

i've been beat by people for free before. sometimes they outplay me and sometimes i don't really focus or try. every now and again i'll take a dive. i don't care about losing if i'm not losing anything

Uhhh, I think by now we've all gotten the point that life isn't worth living for you unless there is a way to gamble on it.

It's really a shame that you can't enjoy yourself any other way, but so be it. I hope it doesn't come back to bite you in the tookus, tho I expect that it will, eventually. It's gotta be a frustrating way to live, I wish you luck.

Nahhh...

If I have to listen to that much whining from losing nothing...you could only imagine...if he lost a dollar or twenty.

I believe in... ...Letting the table do the talking...It's the only truth...

I found out a LONG time ago....

I really, Really, REALLY....... HATE.... to lose my money to someone in pool

and...

I get a really, Really bad taste in my mouth when I take someone else's.

There are those times when that certain person walks in that makes me want to take their money, but it's usually just my ego yelling at me
and to calm him down I refer to the above.

I know poolplayer fairly well and I know he mixes it up with all kinds of players. Some players he'll gamble with that he's got no chance at beating even. But he'll play and pay for the action, the education, and the experience.

I'm not much for gambling either but I don't mind cheap sets. For me, it brings out the focus in myself and my opponent. It can help offset the costs put into the game. i.e. table time, traveling costs, pool gear, etc... and I never bet more than I'm willing to lose. But that's just me.

Thanks rex! after reading all these posts i forgot that there were a few people on here that actually know me.

like rex said i'll play just about anyone. i tend to do things just like Rex does. i bet what i'm willing to lose, not more. i don't go off but if you catch me at the right time you might win a hundred or 2, or less depending on how i'm doing.

man that's cool and uncool all at once. like you said it'd be cool to beat him but it'd be bitter sweet considering how invincible i've always pictured him

i get the feeling you wouldn't win if it was for the dough. some people tighten up and some people bare down and focus way more. it's way easier to play for fun than it is for money.

it's been my firm belief that at my level of play winning comes down focus. a friend of mine said "you have to focus so hard that it isn't even fun anymore". that's my belief anyway

Bare down and don't lose then. if you never gamble then there's a good chance you'll tighten up if you ever do. i used to tighten up a lot when i first gambled.

"Breaking it off in him" and playing for giggles and "pride" do not belong in the same sentence. I never, and I mean never play full speed unless there's at least something in it. I don't play safe, fire at everything, laugh, drink like there won't be any more tomorrow, etc. etc. I have, however, played a guy and gotten beat for more than a week for "funsies." On the given night, he asked me to play for something, obviously thinking he was gonna repeat the rest of the week. I don't have to tell you the rest.

Trophies and "I beat him" s are something you can keep. I'd venture to say that only less than 5% of top players don't or wouldn't gamble. So, beat them all, my man. I love to ask guys talking about how they tortured somebody, "What were you guys teeing it up for?" When I hear "nothing", I put no stock AT ALL in that win. THere 's NO reason to play your heart out for nothing. Too stressful for no payoff. Kind of like getting your dreamgirl naked and then watching her walk out for someone who is the Badboy or Risktaker.

All those practice and playing hours need to pay off, unless you truly aren't competitive and playing just for fun. If you speak of "breaking it off in him" YOU ARE COMPETITIVE, but won't gamble for other reasons. Money? Stakes too high? Fear of getting it broke off for real? Don't like to get beat in public? Whatever it is, when I hear that someone won't gamble EVER, I look at them as a non real player. Unless.... they are a tourney player (which is a form of gambling).

am i the only one that feels people should bet something, play someone, or go the f*ck home! i'm tired of walking in and seeing people that play drinking water so they can avoid buying a soda and sitting on the side lines doing nothing

You may not be the only one, but congrats for adding to the image pool deserves.

You may not be the only one, but congrats for giving pool the image it dsserves.

hay man i'm just a guy that plays pool. i am not a role model or representative by any means.

i've heard all sorts of uncool things that pros have done. i heard somethign about a known pro trying to come into female's rooms at night. but me wanting to play some is so shameful right?

what about the IPT..... the iou tour? me liking cheap action looks way worse than that

Exactly!!!!!!!!!! i'd let ray charles beat me all day for nothing.

another reason for not going all out playing for nothing is because someone who might bet something might be watching.

But this is your attitude, no matter how you want to excuse it,,,"am i the only one that feels people should bet something, play someone, or go the f*ck home!", and that's what I talking about. Are people not allowed to play just to play??? What if you went into a room and everyone there said "get outta here you degenerate gambling bum. The f'ing "scum poolroom" is on the other side of town".

What a LOSER Attitude my friend, IMHO !!!!!!!!!
So pool is a game to make money, nothing more. You don't seem to like to play pool unless it is for money. Like I said before, I play adult baseball, and I have to pay $350 per season to play. (not to mention the shoes, bats, gloves, etc) And when your team wins, you get a big fat GOOSE EGG. (I think each player gets a Championship Sweatshirt but I don't freaking know for sure because we never won it yet) And most of the money went to pay for the nicest fields, the best umps, equipment, insurance, etc. etc.

But we all want to win with nothing on the line but our pride and that we don't lay down for NOBODY. We love the game we play. We play hard because we are competetive and we have pride. I'm glad nobody on my team has an attitude like yours because it sure would be a boring game and a sad way to spend an afternoon. Have some pride man, play the game because you love it, not because you can hustle some poor slob out of a few bucks.

Maybe this is one of the reasons pool is never going to be big again in the US. I don't recall getting paid a dime in HS or College playing sports but played it to win everytime I stepped on the field. Running full speed into fences trying to catch a fly ball, diving for any ball I thought I could catch, running full speed on pop ups to the pitcher, and alll for FREE !!! If it's only about the money, I'll mail you a C-note if you just shut up about it already. And if really want to gamble, get you A** on a plane and fly to Chicago, I'll bring you to Red Shoes Billiards and you can Have All You Can Eat Baby !!! Just make sure the ticket is round trip, because you won't have cab fare when the blood bath is over. How does that sound Mr. BIGTIME ??
