What's your take on people that won't gamble?

**************************************************
What a LOSER Attitude my friend, IMHO !!!!!!!!!
So pool is a game to make money, nothing more. You don't seem to like to play pool unless it is for money. Like I said before, I play adult baseball, and I have to pay $350 per season to play. (not to mention the shoes, bats, gloves, etc) And when your team wins, you get a big fat GOOSE EGG. (I think each player gets a Championship Sweatshirt but I don't freaking know for sure because we never won it yet) And most of the money went to pay for the nicest fields, the best umps, equipment, insurance, etc. etc.

But we all want to win with nothing on the line but our pride and that we don't lay down for NOBODY. We love the game we play. We play hard because we are competetive and we have pride. I'm glad nobody on my team has an attitude like yours because it sure would be a boring game and a sad way to spend an afternoon. Have some pride man, play the game because you love it, not because you can hustle some poor slob out of a few bucks.

Maybe this is one of the reasons pool is never going to be big again in the US. I don't recall getting paid a dime in HS or College playing sports but played it to win everytime I stepped on the field. Running full speed into fences trying to catch a fly ball, diving for any ball I thought I could catch, running full speed on pop ups to the pitcher, and alll for FREE !!! If it's only about the money, I'll mail you a C-note if you just shut up about it already. And if really want to gamble, get you A** on a plane and fly to Chicago, I'll bring you to Red Shoes Billiards and you can Have All You Can Eat Baby !!! Just make sure the ticket is round trip, because you won't have cab fare when the blood bath is over. How does that sound Mr. BIGTIME ??

Why don't you ask grady mathews or freddy the beard how many games they like to play for fun?

how many times do i have to tell you guys. i don't gamble big time or try to find places to go off. i bet within my means. what's wrong with you man you don't think i could find anyone in cali to go off to. i'm not complaining that i can't go to a room and find a game for everything in my pockets. if i wanted to play for a few hundred i could get a game without a problem. i'm just surprised that it's as hard as it is to get a game for $20 these days.

i could go play raphiel martinez right here if i felt the need to lose all my money. i just like to mix it up in a fair game for 20-50

you want me to pm you my address so you can send me that c-note?

Why do SO many people on here have trouble seeing the two words in red???

Well I think my problem is this,,,,,in red "am i the only one that feels people should bet something, play someone, or go the f*ck home!"
Are you saying if you see someone playing alone, that you have an issue with that?

"How about if I win, then no money, if you win I'll throw you twenty? No?!"

How strong is that?

you play adult baseball? you guys use dildos or something? i spent the afternoon in an adult arcade once. it was way different than the arcades i went to as a kid:eek:

Why is it that the one person that DOES NOT gamble always mentions his heroes that do and will bust you. Sounds like a few on here had the nerve to get up in front of a crowd of people and put up a little cash and see how they fare. If you guys that don't would just say, "I love the game and don't gamble." I could live with that. But, this, "Well, come here and my buddies will bust you" attitude is just comical. Just like the last little trip I was on. I asked a guy to play CHEAP nineball. His response, "I don't gamble, but I know a guy that will play you $500 or $600 a game." WTF.

because they're too busy being offended for whatever reason. people seem to think gambling is some awful thing that should be kept in the dark.

No, it's because some people don't have the nerve to do it. NOT ALL of you guys that don't gamble. I won't say that. But the ones that really are offended have a deep down dream to be on the stage and have the nerve to play well under the heat. That's why.

NO! Once again, it's this

"am i the only one that feels people should bet something, play someone, or go the f*ck home!"

Just how do you think the top players got to that level. And before you go and say it, 98% of them. There is one or two out there that didn't gamble. So, all these "How to" threads, "radial consistency" threads, "Diagram" threads, etc. etc. don't mean di@# if you aren't willing to pay your dues to be a real player. If it TRULY is recreational for you, then I'm not directing it towards you at all. Enjoy the game. But, those that talk like they want to be world class and don't gamble at all... you've got a tough row to hoe.

By the way, that just might have been the best response to this subject I've ever written. Get you some.

No, because then they are playing themselves. But, you already knew that, didn't you? How many times must he state that he is talking about people that just sit around and won't spend a dime?

And why should it matter to you.

All this talk about gambling is a giant red herring.

Being a non-gambler and being a loiterer are two different things. Somehow, in his original post, poolplayer tied them together and 93,282 people cheerfully went along with it.

If anyone thinks all non-gamblers are cheap scared nits, then they should just come out and say it. Not make it sound like he's defending the struggling pool hall with a complaint about people who sit around sipping water all day. Totally different issue.

My feeling is this, if you're going to put money on the game it's not really gambling unless you put enough up that it's going to fkk you up if you lose it. A buck here and there doesn't hurt anyone. If you can afford to lose it then it's not really gambling, it's more like putting some money out there that you have a chance of throwing away. If losing means you don't eat for the next week then you can call it gambling.

Sure, I get in ring games for however much they're putting up, and I don't mind playing for table time or drinks or even some cheap sets. But I know going into it how much I can get away with losing and if I hit that amount I'm done. But, it surely doesn't make me play any better or worse by putting that money up there. I can afford the loss so why should I give a sh!t if I lose the money? I know I can't win every time I'm at the table. And like I said before, every time I'm at the table I'm there to do my best whether I'm playing for free or for nothing. No one likes losing no matter what the conditions are. I still prefer tournament play though.

that's 1 way to look at it but to be honest wouldn't that mean that top pros that're getting staked aren't gambling?

guys that're at the 5 dollar black jack table and guys that're at the 50 dollar black jack table are both gambling. some are just risking less.

nobody should risk what they can't afford to do without. only people with gambling problems do that.

Oh, don't even get me started on getting backed. I'm not against it at all, don't take it that way, but no, if you're getting staked you really have nothing to lose except for not getting staked by that person again. There is no monetary loss when you're getting backed. Unless the backer is threatening to beat your ass if you lose it really doesn't matter and I would imagine the pressure isn't the same.

This is probably the most intelligent paragraph about "gambling" that I have seen written on this forum.

According to what I'm reading from the pro-gambling camp posts, gambling (or playing for money, whatever you want to call it) will increase your focus, improve your play, and make you mentally tougher, etc. Well then, if the person getting staked has little or nothing to lose, how would being staked help his game? I mean, HE'S (or she) not gambling, the stakehorse is. If the player is losing NOTHING, then the player is NOT gambling, therefore rendering his chances of improving his/her game unlikely.

Keep in mind, these are MY OPINIONS. I have one just like everybody else. I won't say you're wrong, but please offer me the same respect.

Oh, and don't tell me that I don't understand gambling. I don't want to understand it. I detest the thought of people who have the problem so bad that they take can't pay their bills, or take food off of their families tables, or spend their children's college funds, etc. And believe you me, their addiction started small, just like many small-time pool gamblers. People that take advantage of others that have weaknesses are not the kind of people I want to hang with. You can take other peoples money, but do you REALLY know what that money might have been SUPPOSED to pay for? Do the other peoples families a favor and let the losers go home with their cash. I have never played for money, but I have imagined myself doing so on many occasions, and everytime I have imagined I have won money, I have always given it back. You gamblers ought to try that. It might make you all warm and fuzzy inside!!!

Once again, these are MY opinions.
