To chin or not to chin?

It's almost physically impossible for me to have the cue virtually touching my chin when playing a shot i suspect it's linked to the fact i have never been able to touch my toes without bending my legs either but do you think it matters? It doesn;t seem to matter to US Pool players as many have an upright stance but most if not all of the pro snooker players chin it.

There are several advantages to having your chin on the cue. First being sighting, it's easier to see what your pointing at. Often times with an upright stance your head can be a little to the side of the cue.

Another advantage is that you can use your chest a guide of the cue. The coaches teach three contacts on the body, the chin, chest and bridge hand. All of which guide the cue in a straight line.

So I wouldn't say it's impossible to play well with an upright stance, but maybe more difficult.

Perhaps it might be worth while to adopt a stance similar to Mark King or Peter Ebdon.

I actually find my sighting to be better with my chin about 6" or so off the cue. Any closer and i get a double vision of the tip. lol , (and before you suggest it i went to the opticians a fortnight ago)

I think i'll go study some old footage of Bill Werbeniuk actually seeing as i'm more his shape.

If it works dont worry if your chinning it or not! There isnt a definitive correct way. In my opinion the lower you get on the shot the better your aim at the object ball and the striking of the cue ball. If you dont cue low and your potting everything who cares eh!!!!

Well, as long as your head is directly over the cue that is the main thing.

Interesting
As i get older i find the same thing. On long shots the ball disapears
if i stay down.
When Willie Mosconi won his first world straight title,he looked like a
snooker player. As he got older his head kept getting farther from the
cue.
Can you post some Werbeniuk flicks? I think he was the best long
draw(read screw)player ever,he would have robbed Nevel.

Sorry no I cant post any film of Bill I meant to say I'll go see what footage of him is on the net. Having looked now there's very little sadly.

Lots of good players don't shoot with their chin anywhere near the cue. I see the line much better the lower I get. I lilke to get my chin lower than the cue and off to the right side. I shoot left handed with my left eye over the cue.
