Is this tournament going to be handicapped? I am but a lowly 5 who would love to learn to play the game. And although I know the best way for a lot of people to learn is by losing for others it's just frustrating.

I think that's actually a horrible way to learn the game. You have to watch some videos to see how the pros move and practice with the right people. If they only want your money that's not a good fit. A cheap tourney like this is a cheap way to learn a few tricks that you can practice on your own, you'd almost get the same benefit if you just came and watched for a few times before playing.
I've watched a lot of one pocket. I've seen it played in person numerous times. I'm definitely down for playing in this tourney; I was just curious if it was going to be handicapped or not. Even if it's not I'll probably still try to make it out.
Also, do you think the Ankeny Stix tourney on Saturdays is going to cut into this one?
Not at all, different group of players. You go to Stix weekly so you'd know way better than me but how many guys that you normally see at big dogs go to that tourney on average? I would guess no more than 3 on any given week and it rotates on who shows up.
There's always room for a good tournament. Who knows if you have more options you might start a "player mitosis" effect and that can't be a bad thing.

bump - what time does the 10 ball start tonight? How many have they been getting. If I can finagle some R & R, I would rather play pool than poker...
Starts at 7:00. I played a couple of weeks ago and there were over 30 players.
30 is a good number. I doubt it'll happen tonight. Might get out - might not.
I'm debating on the poker tourney or the ten ball. Probably will go play ten ball since me and Gary put in a 9 hour session last night. I paid for it today due to all the booze but it was worth it. I also totally forgot what few moves I semi learned in one pocket and need 12-4 from the entire Midwest.
