so as i have read on here about metal rings "popping", will inlays do the same if not installed properly? i would think its possible, but as i have never seen this happen i was just curious

The answer is yes it can happen given certain situations. If you have any experience with cues 40 years old or older, it is not uncommon to see inlays that have cracked or that have been pushed up to where they can be felt. In most cases this movement is do to expansion and contraction which is directly related to the environment that the cue is stored in and how tight the inlay was when it was installed. It is important to remember that when a inlay in put into place, it must be slightly under sized to allow for some movement.
Another consideration you must remember all materials do not expand or contract at the same rate, because of the hardness of these materials. When you use inlays in any material it is important to understand how these materials will react once joined together or you could be headed for disaster.
