How would you say the Predator wood to wood joint sneaky with 314(2) shaft plays? Whippy, stiff, a little in between?

Plays exactly like any cue with a 314-2 shaft on it. No difference.

The only differences will be:

1. Balance

2. Weight

3. Grip feel (wrap or no wrap).

4. Grip thickness

But that is true of ANY different cue out there using a 314. The play the same, they just swing a little different due to weight/balance.

Various blind tests have been done, and people can't tell the difference between a steel joint, wood joint, plastic, wood to plastic, wood to wood etcetera.

It has been determined that only the front half of the shaft makes any difference in playability and feel.

Hypocritically, Predator who used to be one of the proponents of that fact, has been marketing the advantages of laminated butts for a long time.

The wood to wood is only about two things, the looks and, due to the lack of a steel collar or a giant pin, it will not be forward balanced.

Man I gotta disagree with ya. I have a steel jointed Scruggs purple heart cue, and if I put that cues shaft on a different butt, I can tell a big difference. The butt of the cue DOES have some influence on the feel of the hit. It may not make it play any different, like stiffness, but the feel is affected by nearly every part of the cue. I had a Dominiak cue that hit great and I loved the resonance it had, but it didnt have a bumper. I put a rubber bumper in the butt and it made the hit feel quite dead. I strongly believe the quality of the cues construction has a large part to do with this also. Just my personal observation. As for the op's question, Ive hit with both the wood to wood, and the steel jointed models, and the only differences I could tell was the wood to wood had more feedback, while the steel jointed was better balanced. Take it easy.

I have a 314(1) SP8RW. The shaft plays rather normal, neither whippy nor particularly stiff. The only real difference between it and your typical bar stick is the 314 comes apart into two sections and has less deflection.

I like the wood to wood joint because of the balance position. The steel joint SP8RJ has its balance point decidely forward compared to the SP8RW.
