i think Tony charges $500 for a shaft, maybe $400. i never bought one I was given one for a favor one time.

his threads are not exactly the same as a 5/16"X14 these days, I had one get cross threaded when it was in for a tip change, a pile of brass shavings spilled out after I got the shaft off, it was on there tight, it didnt feel right going on either. I dont know when he switched to a bastard thread-its close some of my Boar shafts will fit on other cues, some cues they dont fit on. The threads are cut at a different angle. They fit jam up on a Boar cue though, and are great shafts.

If you do find someone who wants to sell you one, make sure you make it clear that if it dosent fit your entitled to a refund and offer to pay the shipping both ways-just incase, the last thing you need is a shaft that only fits $20,000+ cues.

Tony has never changed the pin from a 5/16 x 14 and they have all been precision ground and polished for the last 15yrs+. I have over 125 of his shafts and they all are the same and they fit on any of his BB butts. it sounds like your shaft got damaged or cross threaded somehow.

thats where the problem is other cue makers dont use precision ground and polished pins so on some bits they dont match exactly.

i know they all fit BB cues:) and very well I mught add.:)

i took my shaft into be re-tipped and on the lathe didnt have the same fit and it cross threaded on the lathe, when I came home with it I wastalking to a friend getting ready to play and I was walking around hte table trying to screw the tip on, after about the 3 lap aroind the box I was wondering what wasgoing on. My friend how could I be a player if I cant get my cue together.:wink::grin-square:. It got crosss threaded and took some time to get it on a quarter turn then backing off at a time, there was a nice shiny pile of brass shavings when I was done-the good news is the last 3/4 of travel wasnt cross threaded and the shaft is fine. Tony exlainged to me the difference, I cant recall it here well enough to explain it.

Thats what I like about Tony nothing but the best, and I interchange shafts sometimes from butt to butt.
 
if you need an original shaft, I can´t help you. If you want a same playing replacement shaft with identic taper and wood- material, have a look for a Vollmer shaft.

I have two with the same taper and ther is no difference in playability. They share their shaftwoods, when one of them gets some good pieces- the chance to get at the same time a shaft from Tony and Michael made from the same tree is very high.

As almost everybody knows Michael got his knowledge from Tony...
