Changing threads

I have 2 really nice shafts with Radial threads. Can they be changed to 3/8 x 10 and what would something like this cost? How is it done?
Thanks for helping.

hey Bob, it is not a problem on our fellow cuemakers there. it is doable.
On how to do, first bore it, put a new tenon and re tapped using the 3/8 x 10. On the cost, well i think it all depends to the cuemaker..Good luck..

I have 2 shafts that were drilled, pluged and tapped with tulipwood. These two shafts play great too. I bet purpleheart would play even better.

Purple heart is what I always use. It is economical, taps easily but holds threads better than maple I believe.

This is how I would approach it also. I would use an externally threaded phenolic insert. Those interested in doing the job can PM their quotes.

I used externally threaded phenolic insert too.... One of the many things I pick up from working with Larry..

Do you like the purple heart better then phenolic??

Thanks Jay

I don't know. I've only tried it a couple of times and found that it was hard to tap with a radial pin tap. Phenolic dulls my carbide tooling so i figured why wear out my tap as I've been happy with the purple heart so far.
