Pictures of cloth install

Where's the stretch shadows or dimples in these rails? This was Simonis 860HR.

I have a few shadows near the rails but in the bed and one rail that I think I can "sort of" see shadows in but can't feel anything with my hand.

The shadows that concerned me were on the bed but this is the first time I've had Simonis 860 on my home table and I'm willing to see what it looks like in a few weeks.

I'm sure hoping that the cloth will settle and relax a bit and the waves will go away. Even so, I definately think these are just visual effects due to the fact that I can only see the ripples from a distance and a low angle and I can't feel them at all and they disappear when I'm right over the table.

*edit* Duh ... RKC ... you show your work and say "where is the imperfection?" That is like Michael Jordan showing up at my old high school to play basketball and then yelling "WHO IS YOUR DADDY!?" Hehe, if I had you available to install my cloth in my home on my single 8 foot furniture table at the same price that the gentleman who did install it I'm sure I would be amazed. But honestly, that's like asking the head of CERN to come tutor my kid in high school physics. :)

Those pictures are just for those that say it can't be done:D

If you see waves in the grain of the cloth on the slate bed it's generally a result of how it was stretched.

Is this pretty much a simonis only thing or does this show up with any worsted cloth?

All worsted cloths, you can see the weave or "grain" of the cloth when looking closely mostly after its installed..if the cloth is stretched unevenly the grain shows curves, that's why the cloth install is important on how its done and few variables come in to play

Am I correct in thinking that even if you get a slate perfectly level through hours and hours of a shim here and a sham there.....that a cloth that is streched wrong and has waves in it can cause rolls on a slow rolling ball??? (Especially on the thicker weaves)

Or do I smell skunk weed in the air???

The ball rolls on the cloth, not the slate so an imperfection (uneven stretching) can affect ball roll regardless of how level the slate.

Sorry to be sorta slow here, first time dealing with 860.

RKC, you originally said in post #10 that having a slight stretch shadow is one thing ... as if it's not that bad of a thing. My rails look fine, it's only shadows in the bed. I would say my shadows look like the 3rd picture in the the original post. Not horrible, but still there. You can not see them when you are right over the table but you can see the weave is not perfectly straight. You can only see the shadows when you are about 3'+ away from the table.

While I understand this isn't the perfect situation, is it pretty common? Will it affect gameplay to any great extent? Will the cloth eventually "relax" a bit and these will fade? Or was the install sub par and I should get it restapled to get rid of the shadows and waves?

I'm guessing a lot of these answers will be "it depends what you are willing to live with" but I'm curious about the pros opinions. Thanks in advance.

Chances of the shadows fading is pretty slim, but they won't cause any table roll problems. The reason the shadows exist is because the cloth wasn't stretched enough end to end on the pull to side of the slate, which is why you only see the shadows on one side and not the other. I'd be willing to bet your mechanic installed the cloth end to end first, then pulled side to side to finish installing the bed cloth.

It's not that it's a wrong way of installing bed cloths...it's just not as correct as I teach how to install it...which is why the Simonis DVD is coming out shortly.

Excuse me for having multiple brain farts but I can't for the life of me picture what staplng in the direction of the pull looks like under the rail. Can anyone show a pic of this? The few installs that I have done didn't come out screwed up as his did so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it correctly, but I just can't picture the incorrect way. Lucky me I guess.
