If You Only Watch One Snooker Clip This Year - Watch Ronnie Here - Not A 147

Yes, he does play the most beautiful game, but...Neil Robertson totally owned him last night in the final it has to be said. He's a monster too. It was a complete domination. Ronnie had very little chance to win.

Judd Trump also one to watch

Yes, Neil's a killer as well. Not as flashy/nonchalant as Ronnie, but very effective. Ronnie needs to bring his top game to play Neil, and he definitely didn't last night.

One other snooker talent to carefully watch, is that youngster, Judd Trump. (You'll know when you see him -- he looks like a brunette version of a very young Andy Warhol -- same "fly away" hair, as if he touched a Van de Graaff generator.) He has probably the straightest cueing action I've ever seen -- no fidget or wobble during delivery at all. And although still a bit raw (he's only 20 years old), he did Ronnie in as well. This kid is going places if he stays with it, that's for sure!

Does anyone here believe he played position off the middle point for that outlying red ball shot? I don't think he did. I think he was playing to put that red in the upper corner, and he got a lucky in hitting the point. Maybe not, though.

Certainly, the first red he potted was a total luck shot--yet the crowd applauded.

I think all the pool players, who put such great stock in the importance of the cue, should cut Ronnie some slack. He was playing with a new cue :grin::grin:

I don't have to cut him any slack. IMO he's the best player who ever lived. I'm in total AWE of the guy's talent.

HOWEVER, to appreciate anyone it's necessary to know what they PLANNED vs what they got lucky on. Uncharacteristically, Ronnie showed several instances of luck helping him in that clip--along with many instances of his usual brilliance and pinpoint potting and positional accuracy.

I watched it live and he definitely put inside on the cue ball to play it off the round, no doubt about it

Well then, you're probably right. A pretty tricky shot, though. Be off by an inch either way at that round and it's a mess.

Edit: Still, the carom pot at 2:20 was pure luck--and if he didn't have that luck Robertson is off because the CB hit a ball and stayed at the low end. People applauded the pot, which was pure luck, and didn't notice the CB, which was pure mess-up. The frame results could very likely have been reversed without that luck shot. He certainly got lucky on position at 10:00--although at that point he probably would have still won.

I'm Ronnie's absolute biggest fan--and he certainly showed some really nice, subtle positional play in this clip; I just think there are LOTS of clips where he's even more impressive. I don't qualify his genius a bit. He plays like god.
