Question about the cloth

Hello

Does anyone knows if the pool felt is useable on both sides? I was told by the recovery guy that the simonis that was being put on the table was not.

If it is true. I wonder why.

Also. I noticed on quite a few occasions on different tables. The recovery guy staples the felt directly into the table. A whole massive row of staples! It is even worst when they are removing the old cloth. They try to yank out the cloth and sometimes peel the staple with their nails.

What kind of stone age design is this! couldn't they make some kind of latch to screw in the cloth? It would make more sense if they want to stretch it at a later time.

I am one of those peeps tat squats there and watch people service a pool table. I find it kind of fascinating! Maybe one day i will just build one myself.

All cloths have a finished side, and an unfinished side...because it's only sheared on one side to a certain specifacation...that's the way cloth is milled;)

As far as stapling the cloth goes, I guess you've never seen the pictures of how I install the bed cloths without the use of staples...tighter than anyone can put it on with staples:grin:

As a move to save money, I've seen tables where they called in the mechanics to take off the felt to flip and use the reverse side. The owner is catering towards the banger crowd, who wouldn't notice the difference.

As for the stone aged design of stretching and stapling, I believe the correct industry term is time tested tradition. .:D

Only a hack...or a cheapass room owner would pull something so damn cheap...not one table mechanic I know of...would support some bs like that;)

Glen,

The place is dirt cheap to practice. To make up for shortcomings, I bring my own balls, rack, bridges, and chalk. After it happened, I offered buy the cloth for on my favorite practice table if he decides to bring back the mechanics to recover, but he hasn't showed any interest.

I think it was Jamison Neu who told us a story about a room owner in Missouri who took all the table cloths off and took them down to the local carwash and pressure washed them and then put them back on the tables, flipped over I think. :-)

I am sure that there have been a few people throughout history who have installed their cloth the wrong way and been none the wiser. Maybe more pilling than they should have.

It does bring up an interesting thought as to whether pool cloth COULD be recycled. What if pool cloth could be washed and used on the other side for places like youth centers and parks and biker bars ;-)

Just a thought, thinking about the environment for a moment and not neccesarily the bottom line.

It's a good thing all them little miscue cut marks on the playing surface...don't go all the way through the cloth to the bottom side;)
