Looking for a shop like Prather

Assuming that you're talking about full spliced cue blanks, you just named the top two sources. There are also John Davis and Mark Bear as smaller operations. What is it that you're looking for, but can't find?

You get these type of blanks by buying a lathe and mill and building them yourself. I know of no human on earth who would build a blank of that stature and sell to another so that they could finish and then put on their own name.

there are a lot of cue maker there built with the same style of forearms like scruggs built a blank wich style is nearly like i love "copy???" who built the first 4pointer every 4pointer is a copy and how much cuebuilder gets his blanks from another cuebuilder like prather, davis or ...... and they built cues and they called him self cuemaker

i have no chance right know to buy a lathe and mill and trust me there are a lot of guys who built with forearms who are made from guys like prather......

and its only a question about a style of blank nothing more and its not a attribute of this two cuemaker plus i love the work of these two guys

That is not what I meant. It's true there are people who offer blanks but the cues that you have displayed pictures of are very complicated to build and very few have the talents to build them well. What I was saying is that it is very, very unlikely that one of these builders would build a blank of this nature just for another to complete.

Prather can do either of those types of blanks. Some are true v-groove work, but that other one is just inlay work. The Prathers are masters of both things, so why are you looking for someone else?

Many cue makers build their own short splice blanks. Some may have started out using short splice blanks from those mentioned above, but they typically move on to building their own in order to establish their own style, or technique. Each maker has their own philosophy as to what will make a cue play great...and much of that takes place in the build.

Once a maker has progressed to that level, you are going to be hard pressed to get them to go back to using a pre-made short splice blank...kinda like taking a giant step backwards. Additionally, because it's their reputation involved, and all short splice blanks are not created equal...they do not want to risk running into problems that is going to potentially leave them now out of pocket and with an unhappy customer.

Now, in the case of full splice blanks, the rules change a bit...because not every maker can or wants to build full splices. Special jigs are involved, and there is a lot of material waste. In this case, you may be able to find a maker who is willing to take on such a project...sometimes not, for the same reasons I mentioned above.

Some makers take it as an affront when someone requests that they build a cue styled like what another maker has pioneered, and is known for. Now, I am not talking about makers who have passed...but living makers whom you could request the exact style of cue you are looking for. Gina's are immediately identifiable. Zinzola's are the same. There are many makers whose cues are known by just one look...and they have worked hard to achieve that recognition. There are makers who have taken a hit to their reputation simply by making the mistake of 'copying' another maker's design to satisfy a customer...the backlash is pretty immediate.

That is the point that myself and others where trying to make.
