can the OB -1 use something other than the signature wooden ferrule? or is it that ferrule that makes it famous?

Yes, OB makes a "classic" version of there shafts that have a tradtional white ferrule.

There is far more involved in the playability than just the type of ferrule. Royce can do a better job explaining than I can.

Fasteddie,

I think I should step in here and clarify things a little bit.

Yes, we do offer shafts with a Classic white ferrule. They are known as the Classic line by OB Cues. We have the Classic model which is 12.75mm, and the Classic Pro model which is 11.75mm. Both tapers are the same as used on our OB line of shafts, the OB-1 and OB-2.

The Classic shafts are also different on the inside. Where as our OB line of shafts is designed for a soft but solid hit with very little sound or noise, the Classic line is designed for the harder, stiffer hit. The OB shafts have a noise dampening core in the center of them to give them that softer quieter hit, and the Classic shafts don't have that core. Where the OB shafts are drilled out the entire length of the cue shaft, the Classic is solid all but the tip end. Both shafts get a very light weight balsa pin in the tip end to keep the mass down and reduce the cue ball squirt.

So, while you can just "put a white ferrule" on the OB shafts, it will still be different than the new Classic shafts. There are differences in the tenon sizes as well, so it just isn't the same.

I hope that helps! Let me know if I created more questions than I answered!

i am absolutly sure this is the case. make no mistake about it i love the way the shafts hit something about it isnt right another guy on my team shoots joss with a 314 - 2 and i used that shaft on my cue the other night. i really do think that is the way to go here I'm probably just a head case but isnt pool mostly mental anyway.
