here it goes. i was wondering if there was anything special about the joss shaft.

I just purchased the but end to a joss and now i need a shaft. should i just get a run of the mill 5/16 X 14 shaft or is there something special about the joss name stamped on it.

I'm not sure, but I believe something is different with a Joss ferrule, possibly some hollow space at the end. In any case, it has a stiff nice hit. I tried a predator shaft on my joss and went back to the stock one.

Your choices are limitless. As are threads on all the different shafts. Low delflection, stiff maple, taper, thickness, etc etc.

You have a blank slate and no one company has the best shaft for every player. It's all personal choice, so you'll have to do your homework to marry your Joss butt to the best shaft for you.

what if i actually like the way the joss shaft hits? all i want to know is if there is anything out of the ordinary about then of if i should just buy ! from an azer in the for sale forum

I might be prejudiced.
I have a 68 Joss.After 42 years it's still straight...
..and hits like a dream.
So I would recommend a Joss shaft.

Mind you,I would look for a used one.You get to know you like it
before you buy it.I've bought lots of used shafts..just put the word out.

Why in the world would you want to use anything other than a Joss shaft on a Joss cue? It makes no sense and when you get ready to sell the cue it would be much more desirable to say the replacement shaft is an original Joss.

You make a pretty good case for that.

And yes..I use your product

Call me naïve ( you naïve ) but if scohn and joss have the same shaft pin why won't they fit

Schon's pin is slightly smaller diameter. A joss shaft will fit on a schon, but not a schon shaft on any other 5'16 x 14 butt.

Can make it a real bee-yotch when finding joint protectors for a schon shaft

The reason a Schon shaft wont fit on a Joss cue is because the pilot is bigger. My Schon shafts also fit on my Jacoby no problem(because they also use a larger pilot)My Schons are late ninetys and newer.

The difference that I have noticed with a Joss shaft is the taper gets a little thicker as it gets nearer the joint resulting in a stiffer hit.
