I will be on Long Island for a couple of days next week and am wondering if there is a pool room close to Uniondale?

Thanks

Kevin

I played in that room for a while.

Gold crowns and a bar with some food.

A bit loud for my taste, and the steel shelves/tables LOOK cool but do a number on a shaft...

The bar tender was pretty sweet too...

Holden Chin, the owner of Raxx is a big supporter of pool in the area. Nice room, and the food is very good.

Another nearby pool room is Cue Nine in Levittown. I think ForumGhost516 plays out of there, and heard its been recently renovated.

Levittown, NY 11756

Those are AMFs, actually.

I included Mr. Cue's Billiards not as close, but to my knowledge have a Thursday night Tournament. Not sure about the other 2 pool halls' activities for Wed and Thur.
Call and touch base..
You should have no problem getting any game you want.
There is 1 other poolhall, House of Lords located in Hicksville, NY. Should not be to far a drive from Uniondale.
Place usually has great game: straight, golf, 1-pocket, 9-ball. It also has a very solid knowledgeable billiards crowd. Oh, I forgot one thing about House of Lords, it is mostly a day place. If you are getting off work late probably not the place

Have fun!!!

Yes they are.

However, when describing them in type, calling them "AMFs" does not do much for someone who is not farmiliar with them, and you end up saying "looks just like a Gold Crown" anyway...

I feel it's important to post accurate information. I don't understand how you can argue with me about my reply yet acknowledge my information is accurate. Raxx uses one brand so there can only be one right answer.

I did not argue with you. Why are you saying I am? First words of my post: "Yes they are." No argument there.

You seem very confrontational.

The tables do not look like this:

Yet this is an "AMF table".

Do you see my point now? Why do I bother?

They look like Gold Crowns, which nearly everyone on this site is familiar with. Maybe I should have said that...

IMHO, make & model of a pool table is the most important information, not appearance. It's the same as saying a room uses Simonis cloth and then admitting it's actually Mali cloth in Simonis-Green.

Then by your own admission you should have included the model as well as the maker and not simply said 'AMF tables' right?

Either way, neither of us did right by the others on the forum.:sorry:

Yes, Raxx uses AMF commercial style tables - not home tables like the one pictured in your post. Their tables also have pockets and are 9 feet in length.

Maybe you two should just settle this on the table and I will come and watch - LOL.

All of the info is greatly appreciated. I went to both room's websites and saw that the tables look like Gold Crowns and although they may actually be AMF's will be good enough tables for my level of play.

Looking forward to visiting both rooms to check them out.

Still looking for somebody who may want to bang a few balls around while I am there.

Raxx is a great room. Holden, the owner is a great guy and plays very well too. If he's there, he might play some with you. He's been busy attending to a family member, lately, so it's hit or miss.

The tables at Raxx are indeed AMFs. For low level players like me, and bangers we wouldn't be able to tell the difference in playability between a GC and his AMF tables. For higher skilled players like Jude, it matters more. Then again, Jude may be spoiled being constantly surrounded by a room full of 9 foot Diamond Pro/Ams. :-)

Holden hosts and plays in both the Predator and Tri-State tours, so I'm sure he pays attention to the playability and upkeep of his tables. Otherwise, he'll notice it in his bottom line, players around here vote with their feet. At Raxx, make sure you try their buffalo wings.

Our own Stever Kurz and Charlie Eames, who are organzing 14.1 Challenge 2011, hang out of Cue Nine.

Yes, perhaps I got a little side-tracked. Holden has a great room and I'm sure anyone that visits will be impressed with how the room is run. Holden can also play some fine pool when he can muster up enough time to stay in tune.

Jude,

You were trying to be helpful by being factual. This is AZ, where details matters, especially when people come here with posts to find out how much their autographed Balabushka cue is worth. Only to be disappointed to find out its not the ones that are worth 5-30K to a collector.

With Valley Forge coming up, I wonder how before people realize that Society Billiards has the same barbox Diamonds used in Amateur tournament at Super Billiard Expo. I think your room is the only one in the area that has such tables, and may be the only place to get in good practice time before that event.

There are four Diamond Smart Tables available to the public in NYC. Three of them can be found at Society Billiards. The fourth can be found at BarFly (20th street & 3rd Avenue). In spite of its obstructions, BarFly has traditionally been one of the most serious "pool bars" in New York City.

Kevin,

You can't go wrong with any of the places mentioned. I am sure somebody will be happy to matchup with you.

To the guys that hijacked your thread:
AMF owned Brunswick for a little while so maybe they are both right!
