any info on this dufferin?

update: robin is working on my cue as we speak. he's simply replacing the insert with a 5/16 x 18 pin. i happen to have two extra meucci shafts which i will use on the dufferin butt. it's a cheap and easy fix and will get my cue back in action!

Congrats! You have now added new life to your old cue, and opened up your options, shaft-wise as well.

So.........let's see.......we have a Dufferin butt and a Muecci shaft. What shall we call this new beast?

I say we call it a Mufferin or a Duecci.

here's the final product! 5/16 x 18 pin and matching collar work on both the butt and shaft. ended up spending a little more than planned but robin did some good work. had the collar on the meucci shaft redone to match the new collar on the butt, had some small cracks in the butt permanently repaired, and had the top end of the butt cleaned up and refinished. looks clean and the hit is very solid. weighs about 21oz, well balanced and feels good with the old meucci shaft. it's a powerful cue, good for breaking and playing on bar tables. glad to have it back in the quiver...

Check in over at the Ask the Cue Maker forum. There is a Canadian maker that pops in, Roy Mason. He might be able to help you out as far as parts are concerned. Pretty experienced in the Dufferin area.

thanks for the tip but it's obviously too late!

i cracked the shaft for this cue badly and am looking for a replacement. i have found one place online that has replacement dufferin shafts but i don't know which one will fit properly. any tips on how to measure for the proper shaft, which ones will fit, or where to find a replacement are much appreciated!

In Canada, during the early 90's, I converted about 30 Dufferin house cues to 2 piece cues. Black trophy joint, with a brass 5/16-14 insert. Thought this was one that resurfaced.

it's possible that it's one of yours. i won it off of some one in a pool hall in denver, co over ten years ago. no idea where he got it...

It's funny how this topic came up. Case and point, chatted to friend on Facebook who I haven't seen in years and he said the best cue he ever had was the conversion I made for him, but it was stolen 6years ago. I've never used silver or nickel insets, so it can't be mine. Always used a different metal for the pin and insert when one cue fused together since both metals were the same. Interesting posting. Brought back some good memories.
Thanks, Mark

Very cool!!

Next thing to try is having carguy make you a purpleheart break shaft so you can hammer the rack without worry, they are the bomb.--Leonard

I have a dufferin with the pin in shaft, normal looking pin, but brown phenolic collars and butterflies in the butt handle. Solid cue. When I get some $ to spend, I will have the same thing done as you did. It's to hard to find these shafts and cheap to change a pin.

what's purpleheart all about?

yeah, switching the pin to the butt obviously gives you a lot more options with shafts...

Purplehart is a stiffer, denser, heavier wood than maple. Turns a normal cue into a break cannon. You can put some serious ummph into you're break. I'd like to have a break cue with a purplehart shaft.
