Wait a minute here

If I practice a shot 100 times a day for a month, and can now make the shot 99 out of 100, does my aiming system really matter?

I suppose if the shot was one that the object ball was within an inch of the center of a corner pocket and the cue ball was within a foot or so of the object ball, then no, an aiming system wouldn't matter. Unfortunately, there are literally THOUSANDS of shot possibilities that can come up in a game of pool, most of them much tougher than the aforementioned one. So, if you practice each shot possibility 100 times a day for a month, you'd better be Rip Van Winkle if you want to get proficient at shootmaking !!!
