DC area, Champion Billiards Monthly 9-Ball

Bumpage!!!

I heard a rumor that this tourney is gonna sell out quick pre-sign up so you better be there early!!!!

The turny ended up with 21 , not bad first time out in this mid range / race format , but thier was some good players if fact so good that Mike Segal did not even stumble in to one of the 4 paying spots, some other players of note , Ryan McCreesh Danny Green Bobby Chamberlain, Chris Hanson, Alan Duty, Ilear,Tommy Kay and Bill himself a few strong players I did not know including a handful of real good woman players,

Danny Green double dipped Alan Duty for the cheese, but props to Allen for some great play just missed by a whisker

Now for the room as their were some complaints and yes they were legit complaints , all table related ,

Billy and Eric understand what they need to have to continue attracting players to these turnys and have every intention of bringing things up to par they have made changes in the layout making in much more roomy and spectator friendly these guys know pool !!! give them some time as Rick from big daddys has pointed out about allstars, we are in tough times and not every one can have new turny diamonds in thier room but all these rooms know what good equipment is and will upgrade it as their budget allows,

What that is going to take is us , participation ,, the turney seen was all but dried up and all of us were looking for tunys to play in but they were no where to be found, now however these rooms are working together with planet pool also into the mix to bring something every week whats not to love, but with out us it will go right back to where it was,

Nobody wants that , so hey guys lets give them a chance this could be good for us all

Thanks for having the tourney, I had a good time. I thought the tourney was ran really well. As far as the table conditions go, I thought they played fine. Certain pockets spit balls too frequently in the corners, but overall they had good speed and I found them consistent. Another AZ member arrived late in the evening and even commented that the table played pretty good.

As for Danny, I will get him next time.

Thanks for the report. Definitely credit goes to the rooms who are running these tournaments. It seems like the momentum is starting to come for a revitalization of pool in the DC area.

The problem with these small fields is that they're all monsters who each have a legitimate chance to win! Not that I have anything against playing great players, but if I wanted to watch someone run out on me all the time, I'd just stay home and play the ghost!

Ya it would be a tough nut to crack for a lesser player , I don't see myself winning one but I enjoy the competition and watching some good matches

I consider the entry add lunch and stuff and ur around $60 , about the same cost as a decent couples meal , so its a cheap day/evening of entertainment

All AZ'ers should introduce themselves? Had good conversations with One Stroke but didn't realize there were others in attendance. Would like to put a face to a name.

As far as the equipment goes we are very aware of the table playing conditions. Thanks for saying it wasn't that bad Perk and friend :) but we aim to please. Since my reputation is at stake changes are coming. Our budget is extremely tight in these hardest of times but we're making good strides, though at a snails pace. Previous owners were not customer friendly and left us with great badwill. Be patient many good things are about to occur with Champions. We want to stress proper pool and conditions

Thanks again for all that attended. Hopefully we'll be able to keep up with Big Daddy's in the future as far as attendence is concerned. Boy o boy what a nice turnout those guys get !!! We should be so lucky ...

And please, any forum members please introduce yourselves! We are all poolplayers in the same boat

This is what competition is all about Beetle

Myself, I wanted to see how I stacked up against those 'name' players ... my reasoning for striving to become a better player. Everybody plays good in the gym shadow boxing but once in a while it's good to get hit for real - just my opinion

Stop by Beetle and enjoy some good pool even if you don't want to participate

"THE LAST SATURDAY of the MONTH - 9-BALL"

$45 entry includes $5 greens fee

One Day tournament starts NOON sharp

32 player limit

Race to 7 on winner's side, race to 5 loser's

Added money $100

Champion Billiards will host an open 9 Ball tournament on the last Saturday of each month. In cooperation with Big Daddy's in Glen Burnie, we will combine efforts for higher level competitions more often. The DC, Md, and Va players can now compete twice a month with one day tournaments. The rules and format of Big Daddy's will be followed as well. I want to thank Richard Molineiro of Big Daddy's for working so closely with Pat Carosi and Eric Dennett in order for this joint venture to work. Big Daddy's and Champion's want better pool with more frequency

It's possible that Champion's may extend the 32 player limit but stress that Champion's wants to conclude the tournament in one day. So participation can vary

Champion's has 14 tables, full restaurant, and alcohol. Anyone under the age of 21 must be in the company of the parent at all times

More information will be available soon

Results for Champions "Last Saturday of the Month" 9Ball

January 29 - 21 players - $100 added by Champion Billiards

1 - Danny Green $470
2 - Alan Duty $250
3 - Billy Stephen $140
4 - Ryan McCreesh $80

Pretty good payday for 21 players? Hope to see more in the future months

Oh, I want to participate and actually regret not coming to this one...but I just want to do well. It gets old having to watch someone punish me with multiple racks for one mistake. That being said, I've actually beaten #1 & #2 before (my proudest moments, along with going hill-hill with McCreesh once and losing to Putnam 9-5), but I usually only have a couple good matches in me!

And he doesn't even mention beating me.

I got the reports, billy, and understand there was a fine time had by most. I also you jumped in the ring again.

GLad to see a good event in the N. VA area again, it has been too long.

Sorry Billy, I did introduce myself, I just didn't include my last name! Also I haven't been posting as much as I used to lately, so you might not have recognized the username anyway. I talked to you and Pauline and Shanna a little bit, late in the evening. Also I was on table 11 playing Perk a little 9-ball while you and Ryan were playing 1-pocket.

Who got the cheezez?!?!

Who got the cheezez?!?!

Ryan and I broke even after trying to give him a ball (9 to 8). Can not do ... I am entirely too easy a target. Ryan had me just where he wanted me but I got lucky and escaped :o

He pockets ball well and I am now an honorary member of the 'Over the Hill Gang'. Just wanted to see where my game was after a several year layoff

Now I know :)

Couldnt have said any better myself. When i lived in SF i got my ass kicked weekly at $20 a throw for 3 years. I did get to play some top players and even some pros. Also keep in mind these tourneys where races to 5 single elim so if you didnt come with the stroke you were toast. There were plenty of weeks were i never got out of my chair or took 3 shots and i had the pleasure of paying $20... You got to take your licks and if you never get away from your basement you will never know the joys of winning a well fought out match up....

Like Billy said even if you dont play in it you should come out to watch. Show your local rooms some support by coming out. You may even learn a trick or two for free
