How few tables can have and still make a room work?

I was reading a little history and bio on Mosconi today, and the author stated that Mosconi's father had a "small room" in Philly with 6 tables. Now, at Drexeline where we play, they have something on the order of 20 GCIV's, plus, and plus,... a large room.

So, 6 tables actually sounds pretty cool,... would probably be near full most of the day and night, but not able to really cash in on a Saturday night; however considering there is not usually a line of folks waiting for a table to open up, I am wondering how few tables would be "ideal", or is there is number where "you just can't make any money money that that few tables".

I am sure there are RO's who wish they had more tables, and others who wish they had less table (and a lower monthly nut).

Please let me know your thoughts on this in-exact science.

Thanks.

I own a room that has 9 Tables, and all I can say is renting tables will not pay the bills. In my opinion tables bring people into your establishment, but the other things that can be offered are what you make most of your money on.

The most successful type of room these days has ONE table. Its called a bar. Larger rooms have higher rents and RENT (contrary to popular belief) is the number one killer of pool halls. Keep it small and keep the rent down!

And if I had my choice I would have 3 less tables in my room. More room for retail, which is what pays for the rest of the tables!
