I am looking at taking a slightly different approach to the mental game.
I am looking around for some golf books that only deal with the mental aspect.
Everyone always relates pool to golf from the mental perspective so I thought this might be a good place to start.
Can anyone make any good recommendations for me.

FYI, I did read the inner game of tennis :)

Golf is not a game of perfect by Bob Rotella. One of the best books on the mental side of the game I have ever read. It helped both my golf and pool games.

The pleasure of small motions - is an excellent book that only deals with the mental game however it is on pool. Hope this helps, think you can get at Barnes and Noble.

The Inner Game of Golf.

It's by the same guy who wrote Inner Game of Tennis. If you liked that one you might like the Golf one too.

I haven't read the Inner Game of Tennis so I can't speak to how much different the content is.

I liked this book -- to me it brings a refreshing attitude that really helps you enjoy the game (I read it thinking of pool, not golf, lol). But, if you are a perfectionist and really shooting to be the best, it might disagree with you.

As I recall though, there was one denigrating comment about pool early in the book -- completely unnecessary, but you know how writers are, playing into stereotypes and all.

----> spoken by a pool player who has never played a real game of golf in his life

Thanks I'm also a constant student of the mind and its relationship to different games. I don't play Tennis but there's a great book by Tim Galloway.
I just started to play golf so if this could help there and my pool game it'
s a win , win

Try Harvey Penik's, 'Little Red Book'. Granted, it contains a lot of instruction, but it also contains a lot of Mr. Penick's wisdom and anecdotes regarding the mental approach to the game. Of all the Golf books than came and went, I always kept this one around. :)

mental game of golf

Try going to www.SticksJohnson.com the book is called Sticks Johnson, Bad Lies & Strange Bounces. This is a funny weird story with different charcters who deliver mental tips on the game over the course of 18 holes. Many of these mental tips can in fact be related to pool. I know as I wrote this book. About 15 years ago I couldn't get the ball on a tee if it was a competition because my hand was shaking so much, so I set about studying all the metal books I could find. Rotella, Dr Parent, Shoemaker, Galloway and many more. Since I learned about how to control the mental I have won the last 6 out of 8 club championships at my golf club. If you want I can post 11 mental things that are directly related to pool as well as golf.

Book choice

I want to thank everyone for their input.
I think I am going to try Zone Golf or Zen golf.
I will see what the local book store has.

I just want a fresh look at the mental game.
Probably the next pool related mental book I read will be Pleasures of Small Motions.
