They recently installed a heated 3C table at the place I play. I have really been wanting to try it out! Any advice for a beginner?

First : buy a good cue .... better with 2 shaft
it´s better to spend the money only once.
Mi advice is to buy the cue by the joint.
List of joint and good cues :
Wood : Longoni or Dieckman or Helmstetter
Double Jointed : Adam or Hanbat
Schuler Joint : Schuler cues or Asbee cues
Conical Joint : Layani cues.
I have 2 Layani and don´t look to another ... Thierry is from Canada and makes the cue has u wish.
Second : Try to start looking experient players and understand the better way to play
Third : look up for instruction ... sistem books ... without sistem play it´s more dificult to progress.
Fourth : never give up ... 3 cushion is a very dificult game and at the beginning it coasts a bit to learn ...
Fifht : try to train with a better partner ... if alone try to train family of positions.
well i could continue until the 100th advice ... for know and for u to start is enought

Dont choose stripes!??
Start with straight caroms (no rail required) or 1 rail billiards...
Coming from the perspective of someone who plays pocket billiards is a huge advantage in the early stages- you just need to learn how the balls react differently than pool balls.
Once you start getting a sense of the above, you can start learning the natural 2+ rail shots.

I can recommend a good book that you may already be familiar with. It's 'Byrne's New Standard Book of Pool and Billiards' by Robert Byrne. That book will help get you started right. Of course a good player willing to share knowledge is huge, if you can find one. Which pool room has the new heated table?

Go into a room that has more than one table when other 3C players are playing. Setup the same shot over and over and miss it everytime.
The other guys will not be able to stand it for long and will come over and give you tons of tips.

We only have one table, but your theory still works! I was trying to figure out the break shot, and, after missing short about 20 times, one of the old(er) timers came over and gave me a couple tips. I still stink at it, but now have the ability to miss short OR long!

That would be Mr. Cues II in Atlanta. In the back over by the snooker table. I think I'll try it out this Thursday after 9 Ball.
