Why did you REALLY lose at this year's SBE?

I feel your 200lb arm and belly full of up-juice!

I think it is just a matter of putting yourself in that situation more regularly. Not sure there is a whole lot one can do, it shows that it is important to you and the goal is to turn the nerves into something productive.

Easier said than done, I know. I am still looking for the secret too!

Exactly...

My opponent played in the mini tournament the night before, it was a race to two (best out of 5 games). I should've questioned it, so I blame myself for losing.

If you only played 5 games in the set, you got royally screwed! Race to 5 means the first one to win 5 games wins. I hope I misread this.

The unknown factor in the equation was Allen accepting two hundred additional entries on Wednesday night. Thats one hundred extra matches not planned on. Same number of tables. Same TAP event starting Friday. Also the luck of the draw. Most Senior boards had several conflicts. Very few Seniors escaped the conflicts. Really poor planning IMHO. They're going to happen. Just not before the first match!!!! In past years I had conflicts. On Saturday, not Friday at 11:00 AM. Oh well. No one ever said I was sane anyway!

Lyn;

I told you two weeks ago that those schedule conflicts were gonna bite you in the behind.

You're right, though, who would have thought they would conflict right out of the gate.

Sorry we didn't get a chance to say hello.

Best,
Brian kc

1st: he/she wasn t able t deliver his cue to the point he needed to.
2nd: the opponent pocketed one ball more (in most cases :p)

First time I played at the SBE. Our team placed 3rd in the middle bracket. I now see the draw of the event, do it once, your hooked.

Couple reasons: staying up late chasing games and level of talent as you make your way near the top of the bracket. Players games become smoother and smoother as you go.

Next year I'll be sure to get more rest and meanwhile add a bit more polish and elbow grease into my game.

Looking forward to next year already...

Hi Lyn,
Just to clear the story - the issues with the conflicts came from a scheduling issue which happened in the Open on Thursday. It wasn't overbooking, or less tables - This was my first year as director, and I was brought in very close to the event. I did not schedule enough time for the first rounds of the open, which we realized at the end of the first round on Thursday, however we had to skip a timeslot on Thursday to fix the error and get everyone back on track. Normally, the event gets those open matches out and done before the end of Thursday, to make way for the Seniors on Friday. But due to the necessity to fix the scheduling error, it was unavoidable to bring some rounds back in on Friday from the Open. I can say we have already reviewed the issues and looked at ways to fix this for next year, and I do hope you come back. As for the Super Seniors, I can not guarantee you won't run into conflicts on Saturday at the start of that event, as we are working to schedule that one earlier on Saturday day. This will allow the Super Senior +65 to not play back to back, super late and come back on Sunday morning. We definitely didn't realize we would have the interest we received for that event. We will be working to "tippy-toe" around the schedules to allow people to enjoy as much play time as possible.
Again, I do apologize for any differences you saw compared to earlier years. As always you behaved like a gentleman at the event even through your frustration. I'm hoping you will forgive me for my learning curve, and still come back and see us next year.

Thanks again for your patience.
Ceci
