If I remember correctly that rule set is obsolete.

This is from the WPA
http://www.wpa-pool.com/web/index.asp?id=121&pagetype=rules#3.9

The following are standard fouls at eight ball:

6.2 Wrong Ball First
The first ball contacted by the cue ball on each shot must belong to the shooter’s group, except when the table is open. (See 3.4 Open Table /

Well, we were quoting separate rule sets. I was referring to BCA rules, which most Americans play by.

Yes, I know that.

Here is what Bob Jewett had to say about the rule set you quoted. Note that the rule set you quoted are dated 2006.

The rules on that page are a little out of date. The best source for WPA/BCA 2008 rules revision is the WPA website, which has recently been updated. See http://www.wpa-pool.com/web/the_rules_of_play

I believe the BCA has basically adopted the World Rules as written by the WPA. But as I mentioned in my previous post, even according to the WPA Rules the 8 ball cannot be used in a combination unless your group is cleared and you are going for it.

...Sinking the cue when shooting the 8 should be a loss whether or not you make the 8...

Just to clarify, this is not the rule in BCA Pool League play where normally your opponent only gets BIH if you miss the 8 and scratch.
