Refinishing a Schon

I have a Few R series Runde Schons. A couple are mint and a couple are not. Who is the AZ opinion on who I should send one too for a refinish of the butt only. I dont want to lose the "schon" logo and really dont want the forearm/wrap touched unless necessary.

Any ideas? If so how can I get in touch with them? What is the turn around time? Cost? In all my cue years I have never had a cue refinished myself:thumbup: I always sell it or burn it before it comes to that because I am impatient.

Send it to Schon. I was on a road trip with Rafael Martinez years ago and when we were in Chicago I drove up the road one day to the Schon factory and left them my Schon S-10 cue that was one of the first fifty or so cues they ever made and the cue was refinished and in the mail in about a week.

Send it to Proficient Billiards in Pennsylvania. They just refinished my Six Windows Schon and did a great job. Ask for Scott Sherbine. All the information you might want is on their site www.proficientbilliards.com.

Restore in stead of refinish

I have several R series schons. I would NOT send them to schon for the simple fact they do ''refinish'' cues but they do not "restore" them. You would loose the butt cap and have it replaced with a new one. They do great work, but with this in mind trying to keep older cues as original as possible this is why I use the word restore. IMO I would strongly consider Jerry R. He does amazing work as well as keeping the cue period correct.

Just sale them to me so don't have to break your tradition!!!:-)
 
An other option is Ryan (RAT) at Muellers.

Try posting in Ask the Cuemaker. Many of them refinish cues.
 
I`ll second that for Ryan @ Muellers. I have never had a cue refinished by him but have seen quite a few cues that he has done & they looked amazing. Jerry -R- would also be a great choice.

3rd for Ryan at Muellers. I've seen his work first hand on my cue and my friends broken cue and it was perfect. Turn around and price was awesome also. Can't go wrong with Ryan.
 
I have owned 2 Schon's that were refinished by Scott Sherbine at Profiecient Billiards and I swear they looked better than any new Schon I have ever seen, great clearcoat.--Leonard
 
schon refinish

Count me in on singing the praises of Proficient Billiards. Scott's work is first rate!! Not saying anything negative about other skilled craftsmen, but my experience with proficient has been outstanding. Check them out at: www.proficientbilliards.com
 
Andy Gilbert has done a few Schon R series cues for me and has always done a great job. I can't tell you cost or turn around time but he does really good work

Another vote for Scot @ Proficient Billiards. If you are concerned about saving the wrap, Scot can do that really well unless there is a silver ring near the wrap that has popped. To do a good job, he would have to remove the wrap then replace it. If no metal ring near the wrap, no problem saving it. Very fair prices and quick turn-around.

Scot was able to keep the Schon logo on mine. Here's the finished product from Scot: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=89458&page=15 post 221. He had to replace the wrap because the rings near the wrap were popping, otherwise he wouldn't have to. He can refinish just the forearm, just the butt, or both w/o replacing the wrap if the cue allows.

I'm guessing there are others that can save the wrap w/o residue left on the linen, I just don't know of them or have had experience w/them. Most I have talked to want to replace the wrap when they do a refinish.

There's a guy offering a great deal on refinishes that many have said does a really good job (Steve Klapp?) but I do not know about saving the wrap.

Thanks Dave, But I cant get a hold of him....I called twice, left a message and no call back....Thats my limit so on to the next person. I hate chasing people down just to give them money:thumbup:
 
I couldn't have been happier with the job Schon did repairing on of my R series cues.
Perfect work and a lightning fast turn around time.
The cue needed work because two ebony rings in the butt sleeve had cracked.
To me unless your cues have structural damage leave them the way they are.
Small cosmetic imperfections give a cue character. I like to think about all the memories they have been a part of.


I will never send another cue to proficient billiards. If I know he has worked on a cue I won't buy it.
