Black (new) Magic Rack?

I just want to make it clear that I'm not saying the Black MR is at fault here. All I know is I never saw so much screwing around to get a good rack with any MR...Black or clear. Johnnyt

I notice with that rack alot of times the 10 ball never moves after the break. Seems like this is a problem with that rack

If the ten does not moved without being kicked, then it's an almost perfect rack with all the balls touching...

The magic rack works great, it does wear and as it wears the balls are not pushed together as much. So yes there will be some re-racks with the MR but quite a few less than with a standard triangle.

Blue film on one side

I have had both the clear and the black MR,

The clear MR has film on both sides, the black (new) has it on the shiny side. The shiny side is the upside. You can tell because of the print for the MR logo.

I would not roll them up at all.. this will cause it to not lay flat. Best way to store is find a 1/2 inch 3 ring binder with pockets and slap em in the pockets.

I put mine in a plastic page holder thing and roll it up, then put it in a cue slot in my case. They still stay flat, just dont make a crease in the rack or leave it in there for months on end.

Somewhere on the MR site they say you can roll it up without problem.

One of my matches at ultimate 10ball I had to ask the ref to re rack about 70% of the time due to a few balls not being froze.

I was wondering to what details you would carry the freezing. Would you be particular about balls directly behind the 1 ball touching each other ? I think that without the magic rack, it would be difficult to get them touching especially on old cloth.

I have been personally using a MR 5 days a week for the past 6 months, it is in perfect condition but I keep it flat inside the box of balls,
My bad experiences have been with using the magic rack in matches where the players are responsible for racking their own and then when taking it off the table just grab it carelessly in their fingers thereby causing creases.
I have tried everything I can think of to try to take out the creases but so far have not found a solution.
Can anyone help???

Maybe put it in between something that won't burn and iron it. Johnnyt

MR arrived today

My black magic rack set came in today.

I messed one up trying to get the blue film off. Still haven't got it off.

Meanwhile, it is a terrific racking device. Minimal effort, perfect tight rack.

Other than the problem with not being able to remove the film, the only issue I see is that they don't lay perfectly flat once the balls leave. There is a slight upturn at a couple of corner edges.

Definitely a time saver and t-i-g-h-t!

Best,

I'll bet they made the new (black MR) too thin trying to improve it. If your getting waves in it that stick up with no balls on it that means their too flimsy to me. If they bunch up at all while racking you will not get a tight rack and I bet that is what a lot of the players were complaining about at the Ultimate 10-ball. Johnnyt

i received one today. works pretty good. will take a little getting used to using it instead of a regular rack, but i have to admit that the balls are perfectly tight.

ftr, i only bought it because they sponsored the ultimate 10 ball championship, and im glad i did.

Agree MR is best $10 spent -- get two for that price. Use it all the time playing 9 ball. Everyone showed it to loves it -- except one league play team captain who advised their player (losing big) to not use the rack for my breaks! :)

Believe me I have tried that, I have tried hot irons, hair dryers, pressing between two sheets of glass for ten days, boiling water etc, I have now run out of ideas.

I see Star Billiard Center in Manila, PI that were using the new black Magic Racks have gone back to using the clear ones. Johnnyt

I just received my MR today and it is just as tight as my greenish clear older version. My older MR was always crooked because it was clear and the black MR is alot easier to make a straight rack. That is the main reason I bought the Black MR. Not one gap anytime I racked them. I like it. Ron

a strange mr reaction...

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

I have been really enjoying my ne black MR for the last few days since its arrival.

Perfect, tight rack every time.

On one break, and it's only happened the one time, I broke very hard, the MR actually came up slightly off the table and one or two balls that were flying side to side got snarled up on it as they were passing.

The MR definitely affected those balls.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Best,
Brian kc

Do you still have the foot spot sticker on the table when using the MBR?

If so I would remove it. Due to the difference in material it can cause the rack to move.
