Places to Play in Edmonton?

If it goin to happen, first of all they should get rid of Mandell and his stupid ways.To me he is not a good mayer,he is an lowsy mayer.

Mayor Mandell is a good mayor, he's the reason the city isn't stuck in the 80s where Mr. Howdy Doody Smith left us.

Under Mandell we've seen positve moves toward closing the City Centre Airport which is opposed by the Oil fat cats in Calgary, we've seen massive expansion of the LRT which is something we haven't seen since the late 80's early 90s.

I would say he has a better vision of the future than most people give him credit for.

Maybe your right.Smith all he knewd howt to do was rase taxes, then I take it back from Mayor Mandel,I ve forgotten about fat cats in Calgary. But I still think that Airport is as useless as Tits on a Bore and Bores dont have Tits....Sure it wasnt Jan Reimer?

Shot for about an hour at the Highrun Club last night. Gonna give their tournaments a try on Sunday. Are there any other weekly tournaments around the area?

Went to Spruce Grove on Friday. Real nice place there, tables seemed pretty good, wish I could have shot a bit better.

So do any of you Edmonton guys play in the tournaments around here. I have been playing in the Friday night 9-ball at Sharks in Spruce Grove and the Sunday night 8-ball at H20. I am going to try the Thursday night 8-ball at H20 tonight, wouldn't mind putting some faces to the names on this forum.

I am the short guy that you have never seen before. I'll have my white Addida hat on.

Hi Shorty. I just came in from work and honestly, I’m just too damn tired tonight. The H2O is close to where I live but I’ve never gone there. If you tell us what time things start on Sundays and Thursdays I’ll put the effort in to meet up. Like you say, put some faces to the names. Keep your hat on and I’ll wear my Canada cap.

I should mention that the next two weekends the CPA team I’m on is playing at the Sharks Club to qualify for Vegas, so hopefully I won’t be able to make it to those Sundays.

Thursdays and Sundays both start at 8pm at H2O. There are no open players allowed on Sundays (I don't know your speed) but I play in both pretty regularily and I will almost always have my hat on. Been going to Sharks on Friday's its a 7:00pm start (usually 7:30) and as of last night I got on a summer league team.

I am sure we will meet eachother eventually. I am here until at least September so we have some time.

CPA SL4, Shorty. I don't think they'll have any problems with my donation.

I want to give you a heads up that the CPA tourney at Sharks will also be starting tonight (Friday) at 7:30 and the first round usually occupies most of the tables. Maybe you should phone ahead before making the drive out to Spruce Grove in case us amateurs have bumped the regulars out of the room.

Whats the payout like in those tournaments for 1st on an average day?

The payouts are nothing special. I have only won 1st on Sunday at H2O and it paid $85. Most of the tournaments have 15-20 players and all but one are $10 entry so I think you would have a hard time winning more than $100 for first on a good day.

Hey Shorty, it was nice meeting you a couple of weeks back. I think it would be good to mention that the Whistlestop has Friday tournaments too. Along with that, they have the 5 ERO pots, with 2 of them worth $1000.

Have they fixed the tables since Gilles and Robbie played their money match there because they were AWFUL.

I don't know what the tables were like for the money match you speak of but I assume they haven't fixed them. They still roll here and there but I wouldn't say they are unplayable or anything. They are upto par with most tables you will find in a bar. The rails have some serious bounce.

Ok, sounds like nothing has changed. The table Rob and Gilles played on has mismatched rails that weren't the correct rails for the table and balls jumped in the air coming off them.

I do remember this happening once or twice at the last tournament I played there. It only seems to happen when the ball is hit really hard though and I have seen it happen before when a player rifles a ball into a rail.

The tables aren't perfect but I would think they are on par with most tables located at places other than pool halls. Bar tables don't get the respect or maintenance that tables in a pool hall get.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they "fixed" the rails since the Gilles/Rob match.

They are very very very fast rails. They were worse and the balls did hop when they came off, but that isn't the case anymore.

The reason

The reason that the rails bounced fast is because that they are live bumpers in the rails, not like bar boxes and finnagans dead rails, but good rails over at the Whistlestop.Whistle Stop has good tournament tables.

Well done, Shorty

I was at the H2O last night to see Shorty win the ERO pot. Couldn’t get any of it from him either.

Al, you don't happen to be going to High Run tonight do you. Been pretty bored the last couple nights, if I can get off work at a decent time tonight I might head over there to bang some balls for a few hours. Maybe around 7pm or something.
