Be careful of counterfeits

Just got off the phone with PayPal. I was told that "action" had been taken on at least one of Tasaddicts accounts. The rep told me that everyone who paid into the raffles SHOULD be able to get their money back. I am assuming that this is contingent on enough money being available in the PP account to refund those who want it.

Got mine back!

I started a dispute claim letting them know that tas was selling counterfeit goods. 2 disputes paypal agreed with one and refunded then tas offered to send refund on other which he did. I had no problem with paypal. Least you are starting to fix this Tas but I am sure you have a long road ahead of you.

Great to see you back JB

I started a Paypal dispute five days ago, and have not had a reply from tasaddicts or Paypal as of yet. I have asked for a refund of my raffle money, and also asked for shipping costs to be added if he wants his fake J.Flowers tribute case returned. I certainly dont want it.

I think it's amazing if PayPal is refunding $ when the whole nature of raffles is against their company policies. Glad ya'll are getting this settled but I can't believe PayPal is not simply freezing the accounts of everyone involved. Not a fan of PayPal's policies but I am scratching my head at this!

It's like this, using paypal to RECEIVE money for a raffle is against their TOS unless approved by PayPal, which is next to impossible to get that approval.

It is not against PayPal's TOS to PAY for raffle tickets. In other words the person paying cannot know if the raffle is approved by PayPal or not.

As it was explained to me yesterday by the rep, and please understand that NO ONE has the same answer twice concerning raffles, PayPal does not always freeze a person's account when they are caught running a raffle. Sometimes they just issue a warning to not do it anymore.

Anyway no matter what the payer is not penalized by PayPal, with the exception that they WILL NOT issue a reversal for intangible goods.

The exception is in fraudulent raffles and in raffles for counterfeit merchandise. In those situations I was told generally the account is frozen and if the seller does not refund all the tickets then paypal does it automatically after a certain period of time. Again though there must be some exception to this as I can't see PP taking the hit if there is only $50 in an account and $2000 to be refunded and no way to deduct it from the account holder's bank account.

But from what I was told IN THIS SPECIFIC SITUATION, everyone who files a claim through paypal should be eligible for a refund. Whether they will get it or not is unclear. The rep could only tell me so much as he is not allowed to speak about specifics of what exactly was done.

Thats funny because anyone thats ever tried speaking to a real person
at PP knows what kind of hoops you have to jump thru. Automated emails and such.
I would think it much easier to get answers from the CIA than Pay Pal.

You just have to know what buttons to push and how to request an operator. A few minutes research online gets you that information. I always get a live person. And I write down their names and departments and I ask them to make notes on my account for the next person I speak to. Works great.

Hey, I like that idea - will definitely use it for future customer service calls, Paypal or otherwise.

Smart. . . justice done. . . At least we all know that there is still some decency left in this world. . . .:grin-square: No wine, woman or song. . .

Both John Barton and those of us at Sterling feel terrible that many of you got taken in these raffles before we could post a warning.

While we can't outright give you money or product we have set up a special coupon on our partner retail website, cuesight.com, to give you a $20 coupon which you can use on any order over $100. So for example if you buy a $120 cue and the price is already reduced to $100 you'd get another $20 bucks off. We know it's not much but it's lunch if you happen to need something that we can provide.

We have made it good for 6 months, so even if you don't need something right now, you might find yourself in need of something later this year and can still take advantage of the offer.

We do sincerely hope this might help take some of the sting away from getting taken advantage of by someone who was dishonest as the oroginal raffler.

If anyone who entered these raffles will PM me, I'll pass along that coupon code.

I would like to thank you for the gesture. Your offer is generous as you and JB had nothing to do with the fraudulent raffles tasaddicts did here.

It seems either tasaddicts has flown the coop or just come back as a new user. I filed a dispute with Paypal as to him sending me a counterfeit product, and am just waiting to upscale it to a dispute. I have sent tasaddicts two emails through Paypal, which he has chosen to ignore. As others have stated in this thread, that they are tempted to post his real name and email address. I also have more information as being one of the winners of these fake cases, I have his customs declaration paper-work that he had to fill out to send me the case. Home address and telephone numbers. Oh I am sooo tempted.

Not getting into this but just remember once you post this information on the web you can not take it back. Just think about it before you do it. You might feel some regret later. Again I dont want to get in the middle of this because I have no say in it at all. I do think what he did was just wrong and if I were in your shoes I would be fuming but I am not so I can't say I wouldn't do what you are thinking about.

Rich.

Posting his real name and address won't do any good. Take the case to your local police station and fill out a report. You were sold a counterfeit product which is a crime. It's also fraud and theft and is possibly a felony. So once you have that forward me a copy and I will use it to report him in Singapore when I know how to to do it. Right now I don't know how to go about making a police report to the right department in Singapore. But I have some of my Chinese friends who travel back and forth looking into it.

Mr. Barton, I am tempted, but I will not post the information. I would regret it later...I am not an irrational person, just angry at the moment. I am angry over the fact that tasaddicts has virtually disappeared from AZ, with no consideration to all the people he defrauded. I will take your suggestion to file a Police Report in great consideration. If I so choose to do so, I will forward you scanned copies of any paper-work I do get from my local authorities.

Even if you posted the information it wouldn't matter. Doing so would not cause this guy any harm whatsoever.

Essentially he had no choice but to disappear. The only good thing left is that there is probably SOME money left in his PP accounts to refund whoever filed claims. You can bet that most of the money is already gone.

So he has no money to refund people even if he wanted to. I'd bet on that.

He can probably still log into his PP accounts and send money. The way PP works is that once an account is frozen the account can still receive money and refunds can be processed by the account holder. He can't withdraw money though.

He has no intention of making things right. He jacked you guys around long enough to get the RB raffle filled and said goodbye. All those payments probably went into a different PP account. Scammers are always one step ahead of honest folks.

Other than this guy stealing my IP he didn't defraud me. So I can't have him charged with wire fraud, theft, grand larceny among other things. I can only make a complaint in regards to the counterfeiting.

You can though. But if no one does anything because it's too much hassle then he wins. So what if he's unable to sell anything here under his user name. He will be back under some other user name and start over later or go to some other forum and try there as long as he feels he is safe an untouchable. Flood the SG police at some point with complaints and I am sure that they will do something about him.

I don't want this offer to get lost so I am bumping it. Look it's a free $20 for anyone who needs it if they are looking to buy a cue or something. So feel free to give it to your friends if you don't need it. No one is forcing anyone to buy from www.cuesight.com but IF someoen is already planning on buying then after all the price comparisons to other sites are done and the prices are about the same then we will take ANOTHER $20 off the bill.

Big Truck posted this in another thread.

This appears to be a real place to file a formal complaint where the complaint will be routed to the police who have jurisdiction.

Once again, it may well be that nothing comes of it but you can do it for free from your computer and at least there is a record of it.

Now what and how do we protect ourselves in the future?

First off thanks to Carter1984 and Cuesight.com for the gesture. I may have to take you up on the offer.

Now on to the next question. How do we keep ourselves protected in the future?

I like the raffles, I enjoy taking the chance and have even been lucky enough to win one. In my instance the raffler was a stand up AZer and I got what was offered with no hassles. On the other hand I have seen a few from newer members with no iTrader that seem to jump in the raffle when their stuff does not sell in the Wanted/For Sale section or on fleabay. While those may have been legit and went off without a hitch, I still stayed away. So do we limit who we raffle with? Do we ask newer members to escrow (they send the merchandise to be verified and held at their cost)? Do we ask for better pictures (this would have fixed this whole problem here if we had known)?

I guess the only answer is that we do all of those things in the name of protection. If someone is on the up and up, I do not think they would mind jumping through hoops on the first or second raffle to build up some credibility. It sucks for the guy who wants to do just one and done, but at the same time I work for my money and don't like to throw it away.

One thing I do NOT want to get started is a prejudice thing where we screen someone just because they are from another country trying to do business. There are good and bad EVERYWHERE. So we hold everyone to the same degree.

These are just my thoughts and things I will think about before I enter another raffle.
