I am learning one pocket. I took a lesson with Don Wortman and got the Power One Pocket dvd as well as Incardone's which I really loved but I'm ready to read a good one pocket book.

I found a reasonably priced one called upscale one pocket on amazon for $12 then there is winning one pocket for $350!!!!!

Is that book really that much better? I've seen it listed elsewhere for $175 and the truth is I have the money in my pool budget for it. But I guess I need to be sold on it being the holy grail.

Anyone ever seen that book in the library? lol.

Any advice is appreciated.
 
It's just a good read even if you don't like one pocket

Great stories and photos, besides you can sell it back for more than 175 on here when you're done reading.....
 
WOP is easily the most informative book on any one game. It is well worth the asking price. I talked with a high level pro player about this book once and he told me he spent many hours going through it and credited it for much of his one pocket knowledge.

What I've also heard is that the 2nd edition is much better than the first.
 
The library issue is sad.

This is what I've had several "players" tell me while they laughed. Your library usually has agreements with other libraries to borrow books that they have which your library doesn't have, etc. You have the ability to at times request books like those 2 books and have them sent to your library from even out of state.

So the few people who bragged said they got it sent to their library and then just kept the book. Of course the book detective or whatever he is called comes by and they say they lost the book all the while keeping it.

That told me all I needed to know about those people.

Email Eddie, I think he just found his "last" box in one of the 53 rooms of his mansion. And if you buy from him he will critique you from either skype or a video file you send to him.
 
Upscale One Pocket is ok if you're just beginning with some very basic information. Both of Eddie's books are invaluable as to the information in them. Get both books, Upscale and Winning One Pocket.

I've seen a great many very good pool books disappear from libraries and then seen them {same books} in private collections. Wayta go, guys:(

Not really worth it. Maybe as a collectible. As far as the one pocket, it shows a lot of shots but in a strange way. He gives you several ideas of what you can do in certain situations; some ridiculous then the most logical. The problem is there is a catch-22 to teaching one pocket; what one player would feel comfortable doing another may not. In other words other then what "NOT" to do under any circumstances most one pocket moves are subjective based on the players own skills.

I took some one pocket lessons from Steve Mizerak and I really learned a lot. Mostly he talked about theory, I guess that was the teacher in him. Just telling someone what to do and not telling them why doesn't really teach you anything. Once you know the theory you can apply it all shots and situations. He didn't just show me what he would do but what he was trying to accomplish but I may need to try accomplish the same thing in a different way that is geared to my own skills. For example, where he may take a ball out I may be better off giving the guy the ball rather the risk throwing the game away over one ball.

I don't really think anyone will come away from reading the Robins book feeling "Wow I can really play one pocket now". Mostly it has great pictures some good stories and a high quality production you don't usually see in an instruction book on any subject.
