Schuler Question

I picked up a Schuler cue it's not an SLC and I have a question on the shaft, it is marked with an 1/3 I was wondering if this meant at one point it was one of three shafts or if it had some other meaning.

I looked on google but couldn't seem to come up with anything and I thought maybe some of you would know.

Are you sure it isn't 113, which would be 113 grams (slightly under 4 ounces)? Though mine have worn off, I believe Ray marked his shafts with their weight.

It's possible that it is 113 the second 1 just looked to be on a slant so I figured it was 1/3, thank you for the reply now I know what the number means.

I agree with the others. Mine are marked with weight in grams, and that's about the right number.

This is an ancient thread, but yes, Ray marked his shafts with the gram weight. I watched him once. He had a little balance scale with lumps of tape on it to keep the shafts from rolling off. Most were between 105 and 120 grams. Later, I believe they were also marked with a taper code.

The second code was a wood batch code so if you eventually wanted a second shaft, he would ask you to read back the numbers to him on the phone, and he'd try to give you a shaft of the same weight and from the same wood batch. I don't know of any other cuemaker who did that.

And he'd do it all without taking the cigar out of his mouth...
