1. Did you ever hurt yourself? I threw my shoulder out on a break shot and I'm in physical therapy right now. It's killing me. (I now have an alibi)
2. The most embarrassing moment other than missing a hanger for game or match.
My thumb caught my pocket and ripped off the front of my slacks on a break shot. Cost for playing that night (back in the 60's) Time $1.00 an hour. Slacks...about $18.00. Beer that night 1 6pack...don't remember how much.

1: yes, I"ve hurt myself several times. On the old wood floors it wasn't too uncommon to be stretched out over a corner pocket for a long shot and have your feet slip backwards in a hurry - metal pocket trim vs privates HURTS.

But my most memorable injury was my trip to Orlando to play in the Busch League singles national. New tables (don't recall the brand but I didn't like them) were floating on thick, spongy carpet. Just before my fiirst match with Terry Young was to take place, I shot a few balls to limber up. Reached up into the ball return to fetch a ball and my arm came out bleeding from elbow to wrist. It wasn't a deep cut but bled like crazy. Played my match with Terry whilst trying to keep from bleeding all over everything. I lost (single elimination!!). He won the tournament.

2: embarrassing moments - too many to list or think about so I just stopped being embarrassed.

1. My pool injury happens quite often. Sometimes when I am trying to put a lot behind my break I get a bit wild and slam my hand into the end of the table. Still nursing a cut from when I did it a couple weeks back, seems to happen once a month or so.

2. Havent really been embarrasses during pool. Other than a couple blows to my pride.

GoldCrown...You are your own worst enemy, it would seem. Your first mistake is trying to put strength and body movement into your break. Have a competent instructor show you how to break using the weight of the cue, and timing...instead of muscle and body movement (lunging on the break). Second...well, if you learn the first thing, you won't tear your pants anymore either. :D

I've skinned my knuckles on the edge of the table a few times, usually on tables I'm not familiar with while trying a stroke shot; pretty rare. My hurts come from a bad back (old lumbar injury) and a chronic crick in my neck. Never bothered me until recently, usually when I try and put in more than 4 hours or so without a break. Getting old sucks. As for embarrassing mishaps, I often will walk slickly around the table, glaring at my next shot, changing hands with my cue to chalk, looking very cool and professional...then fumble the cue, and smack myself in the face with the shaft trying to catch it. Happens about once a month.:o

You broke the code. The problem I have is not being around the right people. I tend to learn everything the hard way or wrong way. Thanks for your post.

Stop dropping your elbow and you will stop hurting your hand....:-)

Only injuries I've sustained have been smashing my danglers during a long stretch. Oh, one time I was playing in a place that had that tiled carpet. I was leaning over the table, really stretched out, one foot on the floor, and the glue on that tile came loose, slipped, and I went flat out onto the table bed. Didn't really hurt, but was really uncomfortable.

I've hit my hand against the table while breaking, it just hurt for a while nothing too bad. Now my friend got cut when he was shooting against the rail. He hit his thumb against the metal corners of a Gold Crown.

I tore my rotator cuff, not a pool injury, but then playing pool prior to being fully recovered, hurt my shoulder again. This actually helped me with my stroke. I began to isolate my elbow while stroking and stopped using my shoulder. My stroke improved dramatically.

I wore uncomfortable worn out boots to play for about 14 hours overnight, and went back the following night to do it again. At about 3 in the morning, after a couple of tremors here and there while getting into my stance, etc, I was walking around the table to my next shot and I just fell down. At 28, I wasn't expecting that. Every muscle in my lower back spasmed all at once, and down I went. Nobody saw, and I finished the set, but I definitely learned the value of comfortable shoes.

I embarrass myself just about every time I play... usually not when I'm concentrating, but when I take something for granted because "there's no way I can screw this up"
