Question about 1 Pocket.

It doesn't mean anything.

1 pocket, in my opinion, is a dumb game. You are not pocketing balls and it's the same old shot....back and forth.

You are not pocketing balls but waiting for an oppurtunity to run.

The only time I gamble in that game is when I bet the some guy watching that I can make the set last an hour or 2 hours. Just to provea point of how this game is very flawed. Then it becomes fun because I just go back and forth with the guy and I play the game to make it last as long as ever. That includes me not even trying to pocket balls.

Wow. I'm stunned someone actually feels this way about One-Pocket.

To the OP: I had many questions about 1-Pkt 6 months ago.

I found a local player who showed me the ropes, explained the strategies and played the game with me for two weeks....

... Now I think 1-pkt is the best game played on a billiard table! It's addictive, challenging, just like chess and will make you scream in joy and despair.

Have you watched a 8 or 9 ball match and correctly predicted how the player is going to play each shot? Pretty boring, right?

Get your hands on a few 1-pkt matches, like this match posted by a fellow AZB member on YouTube between Alex and Frost...., or this incredible comeback match between Reyes and Deuel and predict their shots....

While you are being blown away, pay attention to what the commentators say about how they would play the shot and watch how the player actually shoots it, then compare both to your predicted shot.

How would you play the first shot after your opponent's opening break? How often did your prediction match their shot?

Check out the videos, find a 1-pkt player willing to school you, play the game a few weeks then report back and let us know if you agree with dom_poppa or me.

Sam, you know I don' gamble much, but I think I would like to help you out on this one, I would be willing to throw some dough your way and swet this with you. I dont play one pocket as you know but I do like watching it. Hell that would be a reason to get out of St Roberts, I might even get Gilbert to put up some cash (if he has any left when Danny gets done with him:D).

This post tells most people everything they need to know about your game.

"same old shot back and forth" That statement is up there pretty high on the "The Top 10 Most Uninformed, Clueless and Untrue Statements on AZB, Ever"

Congrats!

Thanks you for posting the Alex & Frost match!

.

I know people who feel pretty much the same way. I don't, fortunately. One Pocket was pretty much all I played before moving to South Carolina in '97.

No problem.

Yep. Now that I think about it, I remember hearing a few bar league players expressing disinterest in the game a few months ago.

I believe if you give the game a few weeks of actual play and learned its subtleties, more people will learn to like and appreciate one-pocket.

On the other hand, the number of 1-pocket players is increasing in Southern California.

IMO, to educated poolplayers, One Pocket is THE toughest pool game of any. Frequently the shots, moves and strategies are completely different than for games like 8ball and 9ball. Yes, it's still pocketing balls, but safety play in 1-hole is paramount, and played much more frequently than in other games. I also believe that to be called a great player, you must be able to play all games.
