I would only agree to a seeded event if it ensures that each player that is entitled a seed, is only seeded in the very first round.

The seeds are only separated in the first round matches.
None are seeded into the 2nd round.

To me, this would be the only FAIR seed.
Getting a free pass into the second round in this tournament is only by getting paired up against Mr. BYE

Make the seeded pros pay a 500 seeding fee in addition to the entry... If the underdog beats the seeded pro he gets the 500 as a bounty... If the Seeded pro wins he gets his 500 back... This way the guys stuck playing the seeded player have an extra incentive for bringing the A-game and have less of a reason to complain that it wasn't fair to have seeds.....

Barry could have a series of small entry qualifiers within a cpl of hours of Chesapeake to fill the roles of the seeded player's opponents instead of simply giving the seeds a bye into the 2nd round..... If Barry decides to seed 10 then hold 10 qualifiers and limit the field of the qualifiers to B players and below who would not have likely played anyway... If 251 players show up to pay to play then draw 5 of your 10 out of a hat.... This will link the local players even more strongly to the event.....

The idea of some cheap tourneys tyo get in is a great idea I think regions should have a US open qualifier and winner gets to go to the big show but I doubt many players would play since there would be little or no cash left on the table for the non winners. Poker does this with many satellite tourneys. This would not have to be a barry effort just any room could run a US open satellite and be a winner take all entry would not have to be so high a 50 dollar 32 man field could send the winner out with a 500 daller entry and 1100 for expenses. That would work for most any region in driving distance. 75 or 100 entry could send a player including airfair.

I doubt the seeded players would like a bounty fee for being seded. I think the seeding is a reward for being a top level player say in top 16 in the world or past winner or whatever the criteria. The idea of seeding is to keep the best players from meeting in the very earliest rounds. Drawing 4 top players into a small section of the tourney guarentees some knockouts early of the same. That is why they seed the NCAA basketball tourney but the giants can and will be beaten year in and year out but when the best make it to the end then the promoters and sponsors like it alot, so do they fans who are there to see heavy wieght vs heavyweight.

I agree spread out the players in the first round they have to play all rounds but the seeds are sepereated initially and the brackets work as the brackets work.

I wonder if the past winners get a free entry does that mean Barry adds 500 to the pot or do they get a free pass to play but the 500 is not added. If he does not actually add the 500 I hope he quits the practice and if a past champion plays then they pay so the entry pot is 500*256 = 128,000 plus the added money 50,000 so the toal is 178,000. If there are 14 past champions playing and that money is not actually put into the pot then there 7,000 missing and only a total of 171,000. I think giving free entry but not paying to the fund is not a great practice but I do not run a tourney just my opinion. Does anyone know how it has been in the past, has he actually paid for the past winners entrys??

Barry adds the $500 to the pot. Total prize money last year was $180,000.
