Break Speed

I was going to create a thread about fastest break speed, but I'll re-awaken this one instead :)

There is a local player that can break like a monster. When in Vegas for tournaments, Sardo Tight Rack would hold competitions for the fastest break with the winner getting a free Sardo Rack. He has several of them, he would win it without fail.

He would consistently top 30mph, and the one time I watched him he cleared 33mph. I'm going to have to go ask him what his record is now :)

btw, he breaks bridging from the back rail. He also does some hellish full-table jump shots, jumping over a ball an inch from the object ball, with cueball 7 diamonds away. I'll have to get this stuff on video and upload it.

Break Speed -

I average 28mph and my fastest is 29 without flying the cue ball. Measured with radar and also with Iphone and android phone.:D

5'4" -- Weight 129... :0)

I've used this app a few times and it works well.

I think my fastest time was 33.65, I can hit them right at 31 consistently... squeezing out an extra couple miles per hour is harder than you think.

6'2"
190 lbs

i don't think height and weight influence the speed that much...
I'm 5'7" and 115 lbs... i should break at 5 mph lol

At the US Open last year I used the app from the Accu-Stats camera pit and relayed some of the speeds up to the commentators over the headsets... It was rack your own until the final day so you got a real good idea of the speed each player thought was perfect with a perfect rack.

SVB was breaking on average the hardest in the neighborhood of 24... Most of the other players I timed... Mika, Souquet, Mills, Rodney, Archer, Owen and others were ALL between 21-22mph...

The softest break being used was from Corey but it was a 19 so it wasn't what I would call a soft break..... Just softer...

I didn't get to time either Earl or Siegel.... Both of them were swinging from the heels and complaining as they kept coming up dry....

The finals had Appleton hard breaking and he might have been hitting them harder than 24 but I wasn't in the pit for the finals so I don't know...

Supposedly you can use the break app on video recorded matches since the tape audio runs in real time... I may take some time and try it out and see how the numbers turn out......

I have a friend who was breaking em in the 30s too... It broke his heart when I changed the setting from 9ft table to 8ft table and moved the cueball to the proper spot.........

Definitely not, the speed at which you can break is more dependent upon fast twitch muscle fibers and accuracy among other things.

The poster before me wrote their height and weight so I was just following suit.

Yeah, having it on the right setting is key. We should do a video challenge where you do 5 breaks in a row while showing that you

have it on the right setting before each break. Highest average wins.

;)

Not a fan of video challenges but if you make it to the US Open we might talk Scott Lee into running the app and playing referee. I have a Flip we can record it on.... Only caveat is the cue ball cannot fly off the table... Loser buys dinner at Captain George's =)

Fast twitch is as important as size and strength... Unless you are HillBilly LOL then you just mash it......
