I was wanting to get a custom cue case made. Right now I'm torn between JB and JJ. My issue comes here....

I recetly aquired about half of a Tiger Pelt. I have been told that I cannot sell it as a pelt, and I needed to talk to my local wildlife officer.

My local wildlife officer says it is illegal for me to cross state lines with it if I am selling it as a pelt. He went on to say that I could ship it out of the country no problems, as long as it is not being sold as a pelt. Since I am not technically selling it...I'm going to have my case made and have the extra returned to me....does that negate the regulations on crossing state/country borders?

I really would like to here Mr. Justis and Mr. Barton weigh in on this subject.

By the way they cancelled my gallbladder surgery...apparently the stones passed and it was no longer necesscary. Thanks for the prayers yall.
 
First i'd like to say "glad your mending" and while I'm not a wildlife officer and have no specific knowledge of laws regarding endangered species skins, I think you may be inviting a lot of hassle even if you are completely legal. Some overly dilligent game warden or activist PETA member may make life difficult. Nothing worse than some busybody do gooder to screw up your life......Dan

Yeah, if it wasn't for all those pesky meddling busy body do gooders stopping me shooting everything that moved, I'd be FANTASTIC at pool.

Keep it simple and have Justis do it, I would not risk shipping it out of the country.

Unless it measures at least 12x36, it would not be large enough to do a 2x4 front. I would not do it with pockets if I were you. We are not taking orders at this time.

Call the wildlife officer back and ask him/her.
 
Since there are only about 3200 tigers worldwide left, they are considered a highly endangered species and close to possible extinction. As a result, many countries are cracking down on the black marketing of tiger parts and stepping up their efforts to conserve their respective tiger populations. You may have a very difficult time doing anything with that pelt...legally.

I would never condone killing any endangered animal but using a skin from one that's already dead doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I can imagine any tiger would much rather return as a pool cue case rather than being walked on as a rug.:thumbup:

It actually came from your part of the world Jack. It was a Florida Native that had retired in NC, and Passed away. His widow had all his stuff sold at an estate sale. This was in the bottom of a seabag full of beaver/possom/skunk/racoon/squirrel/fox furs.
 
and you want to cut it up for a case?! How is it not hanging on your wall?? :)

Also, somewhat related: is it true that they have cracked down on shipping ivory cues into the US? Is it still possible to have cues with ivory shipped in from overseas makers? Do they still paint them over for shipping then remove the paint on arrival?

What do you do if you have a cue with ivory and it needs going over by the maker who is overseas? In this last case are you just better off finding someone in the US to do it because of the risk of your cue not making it back from overseas?

Always curious about how that stuff works, any info appreciated! :)

It wasn't directed at anyone, Jack. Just was kinda throwin' out an an FYI. That pelt could be 50 years old, for all I know. Just not sure how the laws are regarding these things.
