Hi, I'm having issues figuring out how to mount diamond lights on our drop ceiling. I bought some I Beam hooks and when I got them in today they are pretty flimsy. I don't think 2 of them can safely hold one of these 50 lb lights.

If you have diamond lights and a drop ceiling please chime in here and let me know how you hooked the chains to the grid.

Thanks!

Do NOT hook the lights to the grid.

I screwed hooks into the joists above the drop ceiling, and put a hole in the drop tile large enough to allow the chain to pass through.

If you have issues with centering the hooks between the joints you can scab a 2X4 across the joists which will give you more options for placement of the hooks.

Myight has been up for years without a concern.

Thanks tony. I don't have joists to attach to, my wires hang down from a 22 foot metal roof to 10' above the floor. Guess I'm going to have to find a way to get up there.

hanging lights

I'm on the road rite now but when I get home later tonight or tomorrow I will show you what is the best way to hang the lights.... You will need to get the clips and tool to clip the clips to the steel trusses...the lights I have hung in pool rooms are very heavy..I can hang my weight from two of type of clips I use...dead nuts system..
I will get more info for you ASAP' when I get home'

I agree with Tony in that it's unwise to hang them from the grid if you can find another way. When we bought ours (10 years ago) the shipping weight was 110lbs each, but ours are the 4x8 ones. We no longer have a drop ceiling, but when we did I wouldn't have felt comfortable with the regular grid supporting that much weight. If you do have to do it that way maybe you can add an additional wire or chain at the spot of the hanger up to the roof. Good luck with the new room, it sounds great.

My apologies, I did not know you did not have wood joists. You are going to have to figure a way to hang the lights from the roof structure.

Are there any kind of ibeams up there?

Ok after spending all day running around plumbing and electrical stores I found a solution and wanted to post it up here incase someone else has the problem.

From a plumbing store I found 12' threaded rods. I found I-beam clips at a drywall supply store, and I got 10' metal beams with bolt holes from an electrical store.

Basically I'm going to attach the Ibeam clips to the threaded rods and hang them. The bottom of the rods will be inserted into the metal beams and attached with nuts.

Once you get this far and put tension on the rods you can stick an extra metal beam up there to slide the rods into position directly over the table. After it's in position loosen or tighten the bolts to get it level.

Then I got threaded hooks from home depot. These are put through the metal beam and attached with a wash we and nut.

Now I have a 10' beam hanging directly over the tables just a couple feet above the tiles. Punch holes through the tiles as needed and attach the chains to the hooks.

It's a real pain... Took me like an hour to do just one. They are supported great though, and I don't have to worry about them falling.

Soon you can swing from that light and not worry about it coming down!

Just came across your thread. I own a room with 22 ft. high ceilings, from which I hung 28 lights. 13 diamonds, 9 gold crown Brunswicks and 6 bar box lights .

In my prior life (before Pool Room Ownership) I had been a master Electrician.

The local electrical supply house will sell or can order from a company Caddy. Speed Links. You will need both the y-hook cable assembley and the speed link locking device

locking device is ERC SLD2L5

Y-Hook is ERC SLD2YH800

These are a way to support up to 100 lbs. it is a cable and it comes in different lengths. the cable has an eye loop made by the manufacturer and the locking device slides on and locks the wire at the appropriate height. I believe they came in different lengths.

I slid the wire over the top or bottom of the truss through the eye which left the length hanging and the end through the eye on the diamond light, THEN WITH THE LOCKING DEVICE I LEVELED THE FIXTURE AND LOCKED IT IN PLACE. The underside of the fixture sits approx. 80 inches off the finished floor.

In order to span some spots I used unistrut- or kindorf which you can get at the electric supply or home depot. to go between the girders. in order to get the correct locations.

I just cut a small hole in the ceiling tile and let the wire pass through.

If you are interested call 772-464-7665 ask for Bill. Eastern standard time and if I can help you over the phone it would be better. There are so many variables that would be easier over the phone.

this goes for anyone that may need help thanks ULTIMATE-BILL

You did a good job, make sure you get the beam clips very tight on the steel beam because they tend to loosen and wiggle off.All_thread (threaded rod) is definitely the wtg and you can hang wood from the all thread by drilling holes thru the wood and using nuts and washers as well

sorry Not the way it is done effortlessly !
for layout placement of needed light hangers(use 4 eye bolts on top of light.
mark table with these marks shoot laser level up from these points
on high ceiling use unistrut across bar joists to hang looped wire rope (aircraft cable)and fasten with (2) wire rope clamps .
on fixture loop wire thru eye bolts I used crimps on exposed area to make it look pretty.
done a bunch this way
easy to level using wire rope and all the items are at home depot and it will be done like the pros!!
Install cord on light and receptacle above ceiling presto !
Hang on hangers to insure fail safe!
unistrut verticals are expensive and hard to install just thinking out loud!

Diamond lights

You cannot hang them from the grid of ceiling tiles. You will have to go up to the rafters.

I have 6 9 foot diamond for sale with lights
