I made a shaft used a LaPro tip, xtc capped ferrule. Gave it to the customer and he said it "Tinks" when he draws the ball? What can I do to change the hit? I shortened the ferrule (took the capped end off) & put another LaPro tip. Hope this will work. Or should i use a different type of ferrule?

There are many things that could cause this problem.

Is the ferrule slipped on or is it screwed on?

Did you press the tip before you installed it?

Did you try changing the tip before you shortened the ferrule?

In many cases I have seen tips can cause that sound due to a defect inside the tip, or if the tip has a very small section were the glue did not attach the tip to the ferrule. With layered tips sometimes there are parts of layers that are attached to the other layers.

I would always recommend changing the tip if you have this problem in the future, in more cases than not the tip is your problem not the ferrule.

sounds like the tip isn't adhered properly to me...

Play with it a little, before fixing it

Draw the ball, whatever it takes, listen for yourself. Then change the tip and try it out again. Verify the problem, then troubleshoot more if needed. The more info you have the better to make decisions, and learn from them.

I just replaced a tip this last week with a customer with the same problem.Ok on centre hit, but only sometimes on draw was it making a tink sound. I tried it out and found the area, initially I thought it was not glued properly. The tip was a LePro. I don't have those, so cut off the tip, customer chose another tip. The tink went away.
The glue around the old tip looked fine, but the area that was making the noise, looked to be coming apart or delaminating, even though it is not a laminated tip.
I have also seen where ferrules have not been faced correctly, and the outer edge of the ferrule is lower than the centre. When glued, there was not enough to properly adhere the tip entirely, ie they could not of had glue all round the circumference of the tip. They would also make a tink when struck on the outer edge of the tip.
