replacing irving kaye barbox rails...

I'm looking at potentially buying an Irving Kaye barbox from a coworker. I checked it out today and the slate is flat (someone told me it may sag over time) but the rails are pretty dead. The seller says they are probably the originals. To give a vague sense of its age, he bought the table used in the early 80s from his neighbors who I think also bought it used.

Some quick googling makes me think rails are going to run $150-$200. Is that about right? If so, that pretty much kills the deal as it is.

If I were to go ahead with this, I would get the precovered cushions (I don't care if the felt doesn't match). Is it easy as taking off the old ones and screwing on the new ones?

Thanks a lot!

The problem with replacement rails for IK tables is getting the right t-nut pattern on the rails to match the bolt holes in the side of the table. It's simpler to get replacement rails without t-nuts and use wood screws rather then rail bolts to mount the rails. Expect to pay more than $200.

An old table like that with bad rubber. What is he asking for the table? If he wants more than 200 id make him sweat it out for awhile, with bad rubber that thing is only good for folding clothes and wrapping presents. if you can clean it up, get good rubber on there, & get the ball return and coin mech working, no matter what the table looks like its worth 600.00 to a guy on craigslist, who is opening a bar opening a bar.

Thanks for the replies. I'm just going to pass on this one. Before dealing with the rails, I was looking at about $700 between the table and moving costs. (I've got a gimpy back and am unwilling to ask my friends to move yet another heavy-ass thing for me.) I can get a better table for a comparable price and won't have problems with the rails.

Coin tables in bars are usually put in by amusement operators. Check with them and see if they have any tables for sale - plus they move them around so you can also get a delivery/setup quote.

IK tables were ok but difficult to find parts these days. Besides the rail bolt problems they also used a different pocket liner so standard liners won't work.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do. :)
