Update on the Des Moines pool scene

Anyone know this guy who got robbed?

A $100 a game? I'm not buying it.

A Des Moines man told police he was robbed of $2,200 in cash at his residence about 1:30 a.m. today.

Frank Nelson, 61, told police one of the three suspects looks like a movie star.

He said he was playing pool at a Des Moines night spot for $100 a game and met an attractive woman who looked like actress Halle Berry. Nelson invited the woman to his apartment in the 2900 block of Ingersoll Ave. to have a drink. The woman asked if she could invite two friends — both men – to come with them. Nelson said that that would be OK.

When he reached his apartment, Nelson emptied his pockets on a counter. Police said in a report: “Frank stated he had $2,200 cash on him that he placed on the counter with his wallet and cell phone.”

While Nelson was talking to the two men, they pushed him to the floor and grabbed his cash. They fled the apartment. The woman ran out with them.

Nelson said he’d never seen the robbers before but he believes they saw him playing pool for cash and saw that he had a large amount of cash.

There were no arrests.

He won all that and Hally Berri, too? I've never heard of the guy...where does he play and does he still want some action?

There is NOTHING wrong with this story as long as it is "story time"!

I trashed the paper copy of this but I remember it said that he went to the bathroom or somewhere and that is when they took his money and ran.

My guess is, he LOST the money gambling and then had to make up some excuse to his wife or whoever else had some claim on that money.

I'm not so interested in finding him as I am in finding the Halle Berry lookalike!

Im possibly moving to DM within the month if a job comes thru, anyway Im looking for a league to play on. I understand it will be too late to get on a team but possibly willing to sub and just get enough league nights to go to the tourneys. Let me know who I need to get ahold of, thanks in advance.

You need to contact Rene through the league line at 515-282-3552

Her combined league will get you qualified for most everything except APA. It just started 2 weeks ago so shouldn't be hard to find a team to sub on or possibly get a team together and maybe fill in the BYE we have.

She was just a REALLY expensive escort.

Any good news on big dog? New Years anticipated opening?? LOL

Looks dead to some of my friends who drove past it a few days ago.

Btw, just down Broadway WAS Lynn's, our Valley team bar. It closed last week for good. :frown: The landlord wanted to raise the rent by $3,000, I heard. That sounds way out of line. who knows why?

I'm not sure where we're going to play out of.

I was counting on those two places to be my one-two punch, so to speak.

When Annie owned it before it turned to Lynn's, the landlord wanted to raise her rent by $800 a month. That's why she retired. so it looks like he is trying to do it again.

He must not have had to drive by all the empty commercial buildings in town.

He was lucky to have a profitable business in that piece of crap property. imho.

Oh well...Glad to hear Smokey's is doing well.

For now...

It will be busy on thursday nights as long as it's ladies night where chicks drink free and mix in karaoke, where drunk dudes try to impress there women, and where some of these girls try to relive the moment when their third grade music teacher told them that their voice sounds wonderful..........:thud:

I use to play at Smokeys but with the juke box in one ear and the karoake blaring in the other it was just to much.

WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY? I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER DJ VOLUME AND HIS KARAOKE!!!!!!

I inquired about as to why the volume HAS to be so loud. And the reason I got was that the new owner likes it that way. Apparently the batteries in his hearing aids are dead. :banghead:

Yeah I guess if it's loud enough they can't tell they can't sing. I hear it's probably going to be Dec. before Big Dogs opens again. :(

You mean the owner is finally figuring out that there are some things that are required by code to do in a building lol.

The truth is the city can make you jump threw all kind of hoops. A lot you won't ever see coming. And to do a remodel on a building that big. And to make it as nice as it's going to be takes time. What I don't understand is why some people can't wait to put the owners of Big Dogs down. When without them we would be stuck shooting in bars or at Stixs. And they can't can hold a candle to a good pool hall with 7 and 9 foot Diamonds tables.

I sure hope you aren't referring to me the comment about putting the owners of Big Dogs down. I have a lot more info on the inside of this than you may think. I do agree some of the city's code may get a lil ridiculous.
