Update on the Des Moines pool scene

New date

Update. Big Dogs won't be open till mid Jan. The problem was someone working inside using a lift. Broke a fire sprinkler then just left with out telling anyone. Its been fixed and cleaned up but it set the opening back a month.

I had a roommate who did that once. He just left it running on the floor without calling me (it was my house). Funny, he didn't think it was important enough. Plus, he didn't have the common sense to follow the water pipe back from where he broke it to the shut-off valve. He, a college grad, didn't have the brain power to shut off the water....and he didn't care. How stupid is that?

Maybe he drives a forklift now?

dont waste your time. we only have valley bar boxes to play on until Big Dogs reopens. You might pick up a little on the way through but, its no place to camp for awhile.

Very close to Prairie Meadows, the casino and horse track, is Bass Pro Shop with two nice 9-footers in their bar area. Don't think there's much gambling at those tables, but at least it's just a few blocks from the casino.

I haven't been to Bass Pro for a while. I like the billiard room with the Janette Lee theme, but the tables leave something to be desired. I had flights of fancy to playing league out of the BP Shop. They had a nice atmosphere, good food, good service, nice TV's by the tables. Great seating. But the 9's probably were the deal breaker.

Maybe the new Big Dog will take a page out of the Bass Pro book and be a really nice place.

Any pictures of the construction to post up and keep us in the loop??

big dogs and price

So I am hearing that they are trying to make dogs into a nice place with marble this and cultured stone that, etc...

But it's still on the EAST side. All this is doing is going to raise the price of pool.

What is the maximum all of yall will pay per hour to play pool in des moines.

Personally I won't pay over $5/hour. If they charge more than that, i'll go back to Styx.

What say ye ? This should keep this going for a little while.

by the way, I heard today that it won't be until Feb.

I liked the $10 per night thingy.

I wonder what beers will cost? (you can see where my priorities lie!;) )

I don't know what the prices will be. Maybe the $10 a night deal is gone. But even if they raised it to $15 or $20 to play all night. It would still be cheaper then feeding a barbox all night. Everything has gone up in price. Food, gas, water, electric, and insurance. Then when you add in the price of a building and a remodel the money has to come from somewhere. I remember listening to a guy at a bar one night. Telling the owner how many shots there were in a bottle and how much the owner was making per shot from each bottle. He said he could go buy his own bottle at the store and save a lot of money. The owner told him to go right ahead and he could sit out in the snow bank and drink it to. Well that shut him right up.

10.00/night? That won't be happening

Gotta pay for the new place somehow. I predict closer to $20 a night IF they still do that and a reach around from the bartender depending on the type of drinks you buy throughout the night.
