56 ball run on video

I was playing like crap yesterday in the tournament. First game, had a 15 first inning, next inning had a 10, then started missing everything. In about 10 innings or so, I probably had maybe 10 balls, nothing over 3.

I got to the table with a few left, made them and had a big angle side of the rack break, left hand side, with the cue ball near the side pocket, and missed it bad. My opponent tried to thin cut a ball all the way down the rail, only shot he had and overcut it.

From there I ran 56, my high run of the year. http://vimeo.com/30611856

I thought I had another break ball, but my opponent said it was in the rack.

After running my first 50 a few years ago, I have been in a 50 drought, but I have been able to do a 49,54,56 in the last few months so maybe an old dog can improve. :D

56

Dennis.... 56. Congrats Buddy. During a match on top of it. I have to go out right now but will watch the video later on today. Once again: Congrats.

I'm back. I just watched your video. Wow, very good. Like I told you in my comments from your last video posting. Your game has really improved. You are shooting very well. I like how you are leaving yourself angles and going into clusters and opening them up. That table was playing really nice. The balls were coming apart with just the slightest hit on them.
The only thing I can say to watch out for is: Lining up your cue tip on the table on your break shot and other type of angle shots. If the tip is leaving a mark on the cloth, it could cause a good argument from your opponent. Other than that, you are a "player". Congrats.

Thanks for looking, guys.

I watched it this morning. I can see that I overran position at times by quite a distance and was lucky to have a shot. A few times my exquisite cue ball control landed my cue ball up against an object ball. And let us not forget bumping into balls with no rhyme or reason.

I need a refresher course in Cue Ball Control 101.

Mike- I saw in one of Dr. Dave's 5 videos that method of lining up a shot. You find what you think is the center of where the cue ball will be when it strikes the object ball, then pivot your cue and shoot straight.

See this demonstration: http://billiards.colostate.edu/normal_videos/NV3-2.htm

I know you are not supposed to mark the table and I don't. You are right you have to be careful and make sure you don't have too much chalk on your tip.

I started trying it and it has worked very good, especially for big cuts on break balls. Perhaps I can get to where I do not need it anymore, but for now, I like the confidence I get and the results.

That's good Dennis. As long as you are aware of not marking the table then keep using that system b/c it works very well for you.
Enjoyed watching your video. Keep posting.
PS: what was the final score of the match?

nice run Dennis, I am watching it now, 1st rack, I like you taking the key ball uptable rather than trying to get it in the side, much easier I think, or should I say much harder to screw it up. good pace so far.
end of rack 2, that was easy. you seem to be stroking it pretty good.
rack three, you just got in sometrouble after the combo on the 8, no problem though. wow, tough breakshot coming up.nice shot.
that little cut shot behing the rack at 16.01 might have been hit a little hard. you got through it ok and had a good angle on the last shot, I was rooting for you. Nice to put it to your opponent like that, good shooting.

It was a handicapped match. I needed 125 and he needed 175. He barely beat me even up thanks to me losing track of the ball count, but he was still 46 balls short of where he needed to be.

I was ahead 28-5. From there, Ed outscored me 90-19. Then I got the 55, he got 1, and I got another 18. Then I lost track of the ball count, and only needing the balls on the table, I played for a break shot and it was cue ball in the kitchen near the long rail, big cut side of the rack, needing 1. From there he outscored me 32-1.

Dennis: you better watch out..... I bet there are players talking behind your back. By the looks of that score & great run (during a match). You need to move up in skill level. I bet if you asked Ed that question. I know what he would say.
Way to go. That is the way we all improve. Good to see that you are doing so well.
