Ohhhhhh - So the cue's supposed to do the work...

I just about tore my shoulder apart breaking. Still hurts after 6 months. Scott Lee taught me to Let The Cue Do The Work...... and I have been concentrating on doing that. Always learning something new...and after 50 years of table time.

i have a book on golf
Swing the club head by ernest jones
he is the pioneer in the golf teaching
teacher of thecentury in twentieth century
he expounds your theory very well

the book is difficult to find but for$25 shipped pm me

it is a real classic, the only book on golf thati found helpful
at age 65 i started using the ideas and developed the best swing i ever had
age cost me distance and i seldom play, but i did shoot 4 under on 9 holes 1 day

4 UNDER? I need strokes Deano, and one of them Schons you seem to be hoarding (at stake) :p :embarrassed2:

Which comes first?

Interesting that some are using their experience at golf to help their pool game. I have been using my knowledge of pool to get back into golf. This year I finally stopped trying to kill the golf ball. I let up on my swing, simplify, focus on aim, and cross over at the bottom of the swing. Seems as though the lighter I hit the ball, the farther and straighter it goes. I am 59 years old. Two weeks ago, I covered the first 500 yards of a 530 yard hole with a driver and a 3 iron.

Another sports analogy for my pool game is throwing a curve ball. When I am am doing well, it is just me and the target. If I am thinking about anything in-between, I can't pinpoint the shot.

I hope you can continue to make these improvements a natural part of your game. The other thing I have learned is that pool is more fun when you sink all the balls. ;)

I absolutely agree with Mark Wilson about control being tougher with a light cue.....Hu

Have to agree with this statement 100%.

I always played with light cues 17.6oz-18.2oz and recently switched to a 20.4 oz cue.
What seems to be apparent is that control is easier with heavier cue and stroke becomes shorter.
One can let the cue do all the work with a heavier cue and be a little lazy.
With a light cue it is all about good stroke.
The stroke seems more proper with the lighter cue.

All in all it looks like heavier cue is easier to play with and requires less skill.

Hu,
Being "in stroke" and playing pool is a wonderful feeling. Being in "the zone", running a wall of steel, waiting for the last ring which you know is coming.....nothing better !!!

...he handed me his Haig Ultra 7 iron and told me to hit a couple 130 yards. I quickly said, "but I hit the 7 iron 170" (I was 14 and knew it all of course). He said sure, when you aim way right and pull the ball (stupid baseball - lol). He was right, I struck the ball really well, but did compensate for a pull. Anyway, his super unforgiving iron (compared to my TA 845s) felt harsh when not hit DEAD CENTER (especially on this cold day). I found that tempo was the cause for the stinging I would feel if I didn't catch it pure...

I started playing golf with a mismatched set of clubs. Shortly thereafter, I decided I should get a "better" set. Well, not knowing anything about clubs, I decided to go with a set of Mizuno T-Zoid Pro IIs. Again, I didn't know anything about clubs at the time...I didn't know they were essentially blades and had a sweetspot the size of a freakin' pea! Well, I figured I spent the money, I better learn how to use them because those mis-hits STUNG LIKE HELL!!! It was either the sweet-spot or nothing! So, yes, I feel your "pain"!!! :embarrassed2: But I feel it did allow me to hit the golf ball more pure because of that!

Right before you posted this, I decided to do exactly this!!! Unbelievable power and control when I lightly hold my break cue now!!! I'm not forcing at anymore...wow!

AT 59?!?! I'm not giving you any strokes on the course and you have to spot me the 7 on the table!!! ;):p;) And you have to play from the back tees!!! ;):p;)
