Changing the Sonic Tip on a Mezz DI Shaft

I just had a customer drop off a Mezz Deep Impact Shaft with a Sonic Tip (stock tip) and wants a Samsara Tip installed. The DI has the white fiber pad under the tip.

Before I do this, is there anyone who's done this tip removal and encountered any problems? I've only removed one phenolic type tip before...removing leather tips is easy...I just don't want to damage that fiber pad...

I don't have a $1200+ lathe...I have a very inexpensive lathe and the removal of the tip will be by hand...with leather tips, I just use pliers (avoiding the ferrule) and it's real easy...

I just don't want to screw something up...the whole "measure twice, cut once" type of thing...any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Just use your cutting tool
I like to leave a thin "wafer" of phenolic and glue the tip to that

I have replaced the Bakelite mezz tip with G-10 to great customer satisfaction

Thank you! I also got a couple PMs about this fix...I got it...lost a smidge of the fiber pad, but not enough to be a problem...

Thanks to everyone who helped on this one!!!
