I just got this cue last night from Ricky in Singapore. It's a trade for a case.

There is something about the balance of a Schon that just feels comfortable. Sometimes you pick up a cue and it feels ok, maybe a touch "off". But for me with Schons, or I should say with the ones I have owned, they all feel well balanced. This one is no different. It's gorgeous, quite a sleeper with the rosewood inlaid into ebony. The small white inlays are sharp and the mother of pearl in the buttsleeve adds just a little sparkle without being too much.

And the OB2 shaft? Well I have a major man-crush on Royce Bunnell right now. This might be the best shaft I have ever hit a ball with. There is no tink. It's got that nice soft sound, a satisfying thud that I remember from my first Schon and my first Scruggs. And does it feel good??? Yes. Damn good.

I like horse trading. It's nice to know I have something people want and that allows me to get into cues again and be promiscuous with them.

You can see a lot more of the rosewood in the pictures than you can holding this cue in your hands. Schon really does a fantastic job of layering their inlays to create nicely flowing designs.

Here's a guy that could get anything he wanted and what he wanted was a Schon

I am a little disappointed he didn't order one of my Schon Balabushka Tributes
but they are sold out

i do have a Hoppe style Schon if John wants to do some more trading for one of his case masterpieces

Hey Dean easy on me. I am slowly getting back into cue collecting and it's a tightrope dance when we are building a business. I have to sort of wait for opportunities to arise and hope that I can make a good trade.

When I was 21 I was in the Air Force in Schwaebisch Hall Germany. I was shooting with a McDermott D-4. The shaft had been broken once before I got it and glued back together. It still played good, little stiffer than a stock McDermott. I broke it in the same spot maybe three more times and glued it back every time, even going so far as to win one tournament with the shaft taped up with masking tape since I broke it the night before.

Then one day while practicing 14.1 with my friend Andy I dogged an easy shot when on a run of 38 or so. I swung the cue not intending to break it and clipped the table and the cue snapped below the joint. Andy said drily, "I guess you're not going to put it back together now."

I went home and started leafing through my catalogs and seeing what I wanted. A few years earlier I had gotten to try a Schon cue that a road player from up north had brought down to Florida. I fell in love with Schon at that point. So when I got in the Air Force I got into the habit of writing to any of the sellers advertising in the magazines and getting whatever brochures I could. Schon's came as a collection of black and white drawings.

Fast forward to me needing a new cue. I go through the magazines and see that Danny Barouty is a Schon dealer. I call him up and he tells me what he's got that fits my budget, about $1400 at the time. At this time I needed about $800 worth of repairs on my 1963 Beetle. So when it came to decision time I of course chose to get the Schon.

The day it came in I took a bus to town and walked to the poolroom. Within an hour I was in action and I had won a couple hundred. The next day my friend came to visit and we drove to another larger room in another city. Again I got in action and this time I won $800. Enough to get my car fixed and I was on the road again!

I played with that cue for a long time. It was a truly sweet player. Since then I have owned several Schons. All great cues. I let all my cues go in 2003.

Now the opportunity came up to own another Schon and although I didn't think I would get it I impulsively decided to try and here it is. And like I said, it feels just like my first one did so long ago.

Speaking of don't you owe Kenny Murrell an apology for making his cue look bad? :->
 
Very cool story...

I too was in the Air Force and it was while I was in that I learned the game of pool. My room mate was the Air Force champion at the time and when I walked into the room...the first thing he asked me after saying hello was, "Do you shoot pool"? My reply at that time was, "no". So he says, "if you want to hangout with me you gotta learn...cause I shoot for beer and I shoot for money". Needless to say after many beers and dollars bills...I learned.

Schon cues

I've owned quite a few Schon cues over the years and for the money they are hard to beat. I always enjoyed playing with the Schon cues I owned, but I wanted something different and I ended up selling my Schon cues (I wish I still owned a couple of them!).

Schon

The word for these cues is consistent. I love the way the older ones play. The new ones, once you get used to them, play very well also. My only preference is the very old shafts with a micarta or ivory ferrule. Just like the feel over a LD shaft. This one is very nice looking and thanks for sharing.

more importantly i have a special project involving theme cases
5 for me and 1 for a cue i recently sold

i have a year to get these so all i need is your commitment

i sold most of the cases you made me,but i am holding on to the chas tributes
they are not fancy,but like several of your others,they just scream CLASS

i look forward to hearing from you
