OK anyone jump in one pocket?? If you do is it just every now and then or some you do frequently? ? I did this today it was the only thing I could think of and the guy I was playing looked at me like I was crazy. But after it was done he was like damn that was a good shot...

Per the official rules:

5. Jumping

Players may use jump shots in One Pocket as long as they are performed with the player's own standard playing cue using legal jumping techniques as defined in General Rules. Specialized jump cues are not permitted in One Pocket.

Please note that many players, poolrooms and tournament directors have differing opinions on specialized jump cues. It is recommended that players check with their opponent, the 'house man' or the tournament director prior to an important match to come to agreement on whether specialized jump cues shall be permitted or not.

(Jumping good.... using jump cues bad....)

Smokey used to jump the stack with just a shaft. Saw him do it several times and mostly with success

i surprised the pool room by intentionally jumping the cue ball off the table on a ball in my opponents hole that was hard to follow in

That is just a standard one-hole shot in most areas. Over the years I've sen it and done it hundreds of times.

Totally illegal in pool now-a-days. It is so easy to jump with just a shaft that a rule was made that the cue has to be at least 40" long.

I've seen it done occasionally but normally it would be to dangerous of a shot. I once saw a player who had a small cut into his pocket but in so doing he would hit the pack sending balls towards his opponents pocket so he jumped the cue ball making his cut but the cue ball then jumped over the pack contacting the rail and then rebounded into the other side of the rack and sending balls toward his own pocket. Very creative, and of coarse, very dangerous.

In all my 1pocket play the last 15 years or so, I have only had a couple of guys shoot jump shots on me (both times they missed and sold out) and I have only played one once (a little baby jump shot to just get past the edge of a ball). The penalty for missing a shot or losing the cue ball is so severe at 1pocket (the other guys runs out or at least runs some and puts you in trap) that most guys don't shoot jump shots, or even consider them.

I agree, risk reward is just not there, many times it's much easier and less expensive to just take a controlled scratch

Surprised there haven't been more instances where a guy only needs one ball and is barely Hooked with a ball near his hole that is easily jumped in.

NUFF SAID!

I have shot into the rail to jump over a ball that had me locked up....it happened to work (only did it once), but I've never used a jump cue in 1P. If I have a guy busting out a jump cue against me, I'm just thinking I'm probably liking the situation that brought it out, so, go for it.

I have jumped off a ball. You know, shot the ball and jump off it over other balls to avoid sending them towards my opponents pocket or breaking up a cluster that I didnt want broken yet.

I did not know that. Guys my friends don't either LOL.

And I do agree that it is very risky to jump.

But when you pull off a good one it impressive LOL..

I never understood the need to specify whether one can use a playing cue or a specialized cue. If your gonna allow jumping why does it matter what kind of cue you use?
