Question about 80's Gold Letter JOSS logo

Hi guys, I was just wondering if the old gold letter 1980's JOSS logo on the joint collars could be saved, or re-printed if the cue was re-finished. I emailed Dan Janes awhile ago to ask, but he hasn't gotten back to me, so I figured I'd ask here and see if anyone had any experience in keeping/maintaining the logo after a re-finish. I seen it saved on the butt, not on the shafts. Joss can duplicate the gold lettering if refinished by them.

I have a gold letter Joss with Nick Varner's signature in gold letters also . i tried to get Dan Janes to refinish it and he refused saying if the signature came off it would devalue the cue . i ended up having another cue maker refinish the cue and it came out fine .

Im told proficient billiards does an excellent job also.

He couldn't re-place the logo? I can understand another cuemaker not doing it, but that's odd since it's his logo

I have one better. I had an early block letter Joss with a delrin buttcap. The previous owner split the delrin and I emailed Dan to ask if he would refinish the cue and replace the delrin. He said if he refinished it, he would put a buttcap made of the material he currently uses and he would mark the cue with his current logo. In my opinion, he would essentially ruin the cue and its value. Ended up selling the cue as it was for less than I had hoped to get.

Funny you mention that, I have an old pre-1973 hoppe Joss with the logo still visible, but the cue needs to be refinished pretty badly. I'm not sure what to do with it as I don't want to lose the logo on the hoppe ring.

Will post pics tonight. I really want to know what to do with this one. It's a great old cue, but the finish is almost completely worn off the forearm, and a little bit on the butt. I just don't want to de-value such a beautiful old-school cue, especially since the logo is still very present. I could get it re-finished and the logo re-etched by someone else possibly, but I'd rather have it only touched by the original maker to preserve authenticity. It just doesn't make sense to me why he wouldn't...

If the logo is still pretty dark it would probably be fine. I had one refinished and they sanded the butt cap some and logo was still there & dark. Just depends on the engraving.

Sir, that is a damn nice JOSS.

I wouldn't touch a thing on it lest it be mistaken for one of those closet queens that "shoots lights out", cost $5,000, and was made by Mr "you-know-who".

Great cue!! I would suggest getting in touch with Scot Sherbine at Proficient Billiards. He said they could do my Dishaw, with the Danbuilt logo and keep the logo. I understand you'd rather have Dan do it but Scot has a great reputation and has worked on every make of cue imaginable.

I appreciate that. It's funny, when ever I come across old school Joss's like these I think of your story about yours you posted here awhile ago. amazing stuff.
