I have been very fortunate to always place around the top in league play. The payback has always been just a little more then what we put in .

I just recently played on a new league i wont mention the name.
We took first i think or close to first and the money that we are going to get back lets say falls short of what we put in.

No $hit won first and going to get back less then what we put in .
What the he!! iis the world coming to.

Put a fork in me, im done...

I choose...

To look at it as, I paid for entertainment/practice. you just got one big discount compared to everyone else!

"Glass may have poop in it, but at least its half full!" :D

No i didn't but are you saying there are leagues that don't pay back what you put in it if you win.If so why join it?

To play. To enjoy the game, and the competition.

Everybody doesn't get something back, why should the losers still play?

People expecting to get paid, shouldn't be playing league, they should be playing tournaments.

Here we go again. (readying my response for the inevitable, when the alphabet soup becomes identified, and the rants begin)

8pack, after checking with Tony it will be more than we paid in, if the numbers add up to what I added. Also I think we ended up second to Marty.

I remember Mark Griffin discussing a softball tournament on one of the TAR podcasts. He said the entry into the tournament was $300, most had to drive and pay for food and hotels. After all that, the first place team got bats and gloves, etc....No Money!

Why does everyone expect to get something? I love when people don't want to play in a tournament because there is not enough money added. Like everyone is supposed to take a loss so that the couple of guys that cash get more.

I don't get it sometimes. Play in the league if you want to enjoy it and have fun. Even if you get a trip to vegas, you didn't actually win anything. You paid dues and money to play every week. You put in $400-500 to win a flight and a hotel. You could have done that with the money you put in.

Its not what i was told. Also we win total rounds out right and we still dont win because of ball count .Another f---ing league joke.

Where in second and have to give the first place teams balls. Is there something wrong with that picture.

Yup! If that's your goal.

I play in two different leagues a week. I use the competition from these leagues as a testing ground for my game. I never expect to win money. I do expect to have lots of competition and loads of fun.

pay outs

I was team captain on a team that almost consistently took first place. We always got back 100% of what we paid in. The lower teams were taking a beating. Went to league director and explained issue. After bringing matter up among all team captains we voted to restructure payout money more evenly. Pool is supposed to be fun and enjoyment, We all have daytime jobs for income. I didnt join league to subsidize my income. Look at the enjoyment of the fun you have in the poolhall and the reduced price of table time. Thats your big payout.

Lets just see what it ends up being, bet the difference is only 3-4 bucks between 1st and 2nd. But yes there is something wrong with the second place team giving balls to the first place team. don't forget to BYOB some for me.

Here's the story of Victor and Rufert

Victor joins a league and attends for four hours a week for a 30-week season. He pays $6 each week to play. Because Victor is a great player he wins the league and gets the top payout of $200 at the end of the year. This exceeds the total of what he put in. He's happy, because he does this league for the money.

Instead of playing league, Rufert gets a job as the fry guy at McDonalds for the same four hours each week. His payout after 30 weeks is close to $1,000.

Will somebody do the math please???

This may be a bit of a foreign concept but from what I see, every league out there is in the business of making money and the bulk of it comes from one place...the players.

If the OP is saying he loses money from the total input including table time then he makes no sense. If he's saying he loses money from the prize fund portion then I agree with him.
The total paid each week s/b broken down by table time/prize fund/expenses etc. Is it broken down?

Yeah, me too. But why does it have to cost anything if it is only for "fun" and there is not much cost associated with it. I mean, the LO's don't pay for the pool tables, they are not providing the cues, they don't bring referees, they don't supply the balls, etc.etc...

Heck, softball leagues are not free, and offer no cash payouts, but a whole team can play for a season for $600, that includes a softball field, time consuming field maintenance, lights, umpires, new softballs for each game, scoreboard, and trophies for the top teams.

There are pool leagues teams that pay for that to play on a crappy barbox and get NADA in return. More money should go to the players and a good portion to the bar/poolroom. The money has to go somewhere, why not to the players and the room owners? Just a thought.

It works for us in Chicago. $12 per player, of that $4 to house for table time and a $1 to the stats/schedule/handicap person, the rest into trophies and cash payouts. Even the team that finishes in 16th place gets $50 back, and that is better than a sharp stick in the eye :)

Lets say if your total fee ends at 200 for all the weeks you play.
You win that league and you only get back 150.Im saying thats wrong and if some of you think its ok,well..

Some people here where I live (Texas), just play in trophy leagues... no money back at all! I guess you just need to research what the structure of the league is and if you don't like it, don't play in it. I recently played in a league here, not really knowing the structure. I was pleasantly surprised to get some money back at the end of the season (I put in around $133 and got back around $250). If I had gotten back nothing, it was have been fine as I joined the league to play with some friends and have a little competition. I didn't expect to make money.

Leagues just out to make money?

This may be a bit of a foreign concept but from what I see, every league out there is in the business of making money and the bulk of it comes from one place...the players.

Not all league organizations are in it for profit. ACS is a non-profit organization. Another makes huge profits. Cash pay-outs at the local level depend simply on how much players pay and how it's divvied up. I play in an ACS league in which each team puts in $600 (15 weeks) and first place pays $1,000. Every team cashes and there are prizes for high average. And the annual dues are only $10!!
