I did not have time to play this year, but I stopped by on Saturday for a few hours to hang with friends and check out the new venue. It was only a 120-mile drive for me, so no big deal.
Anyway, I saw Shanelle in person for the first time. She is a beautiful girl, that goes without saying. She did not seem to be a strong player, but my point for this thread was to share how predictable the comments were regarding her game/looks etc.
Almost every man commented on her appearance, and not always respectfully, if you catch my drift. The comments were not negative, just very sexual, as you can imagine.
Almost every female strongly critiqued her wardrobe (she was overdressed, who wears high heels to a pool event, etc.).
Almost everyone was critical of her quality of play.
Now, I don't know her, but I am sure she is a nice person.
I just wanted to share that I found the responses obvious and amusing.
My best friend was competing on a table opposite hers, so a few people felt the need to tease me about "We know who you're REALLY watching!"
It was all fairly harmless, but I found it interesting how a beautiful woman can spark so much discussion and reaction.
If she gets sponsorship, money, training and attention because of her looks and not her playing abilities, then so what? She lives in the same world we do. Is it fair? Probably not...but the haters will always hate.
I would say to her, "Carry on! Your looks and youth won't last forever, so enjoy it while you can! Life is short!"
Thanks for reading.
